Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Preslee Marshall. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Preslee, appreciate you joining us today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
I have loved traveling ever since I went on my first parent-free trip in 2017 with a co-worker. We went to California for two weeks and had the time of our lives.
The following year, I started working a lot more. I was working three jobs all at once, making it difficult to book days off from all jobs to go on a vacation. Or, if I was able to, I was missing out on some much-needed pay cheques.
After being laid off from all jobs over the pandemic, I was lost and didn’t know where to turn. Seemingly out of nowhere, an opportunity arose for me to help manage a PR firm, and that is where my situation took a turn for the better.
I was able to start up my own business (a sole proprietorship), and was then contracted by the company to manage the press side of things.
This opened many doors for me, including the freedom to travel as I pleased since the work was all done online. Once it was safe, I hopped back on my feet and traveled while making money.
My work during the days would pay for my daily expenses while traveling; it was perfect and exactly what I needed. I now travel when I can and get to work in beautiful destinations. A dream come true!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Preslee Marshall, and I am a 26-year-old woman from Canada.
At the start of the pandemic, I contacted a business owner over social media, asking about the companies he ran.
Intrigued and out of work due to the pandemic, I suggested that if he needed an extra worker, to let me know.
Nothing happened at that moment, but a while later, he reached back out, saying he was looking to hire a new employee.
Not only that, but I was able to start my own company called Preslee Marshall Services, and the PR Agency hired me as a contract worker.
Little did I know a simple DM over social media would change my life for the better.
The company I help manage works with entrepreneurs and businesses, helping them secure placements on many different publications—the publications aid by building authority and a strong google presence.
This PR agency prioritizes communication and client relationships. We set expectations, communicate weekly with clients to ensure they know precisely what is happening, and deliver results that speak for themselves.
We’ve worked with some of the top brands in the world and always strive to do our best.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Word of mouth.
If you give a client a positive experience that shows results, people will take notice.
Soon enough, their friends, family, and followers will start asking about where they got their service done.
Referral programs are another fantastic way to spread messages and obtain new clients. Not only have you helped your client’s business/solved their problems, but you now gave them a chance to earn a commission or free services for sharing their results with friends and family and bringing them on board.
If a client isn’t totally satisfied, find out what you can do to turn that around. This is where communication is critical. You can turn a negative situation into a positive one, which speaks volumes about your business and its standards. Listen to your client and ask what you could do to make things right.
I can’t begin to tell you about all of the negative reviews I’ve seen for brands on google, only to see the person come back at a later date to edit the rating, stating that the company went above and beyond to fix what went wrong and how they will definitely be a returning customer.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Youtube has always been a source of never-ending information for me.
You can find so much information from many different people across the platform. There is something on there for everyone, and new information is always added.
I would recommend searching for topics such as:
– Habits of highly effective managers
– Roles and responsibilities of a manager
– Communication skills for managers
These have helped me grow and learn as someone in a management position.
Books are another source of information for both managers and entrepreneurs.
I have noticed a rise in my entrepreneur friends’ reading. I have also decided to hop on the train recently and have learned a lot of valuable information.
I am reading “Good to Great” by Jim Collins, which is phenomenal. From the first chapter to the end, there is much to unpack and learn. I recommend this book to all.
