We recently connected with PreShus Lee and have shared our conversation below.
PreShus, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Our mission at SutchiLee Productions is to provide a “New Standard of Excellence”. No matter the industry, the clientele, or the budget, we provide the best quality of work and the same effort to achieve the best results possible for any project we are blessed to be a part of.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Writer and creator, PreShus Lee, was raised in Jersey City, NJ, and is currently based out of Durham, NC. Growing up in a house full of busy adults, TV was often her babysitter and friend. An affinity for classic shows, like her all-time favorite “The Nanny”, sparked the inspiration for her to write her own stories. A new world of cinematic gold was opened through the lens of Telenovelas, Bollywood, and Nollywood entertainment. Many years of poems, essays, and short stories later, in 2016, she discovered Hallyu, the world of Korean dramas and K-pop music. Falling in love with the arc of storytelling and the cinematography, she dared to merge this new world with her own and created projects to reflect cultural fusion and history reflected in the genre.
She has been involved in the local RDU filmmaking community working on various television, film, and docu-series projects as a certified sound engineer and professional editor. In 2019, PreShus made her directorial debut with her short documentary “Chapter 32: From Tragedy to Triumph” which follows her experiences after surviving a heart attack at the age of 32. Since its debut, it has been shown in local, national, and international film festivals including the legendary Hayti Film Festival in Durham, NC, and the Toronto International Women’s Film Festival.
In July 2020, she became the Co-CEO and Founder of the brand management and media company SutchiLee Productions, LLC which represents “A New Standard of Excellence” while offering services in Digital and print Media, Film, and entertainment.
PreShus is an advocate for her chronic skin condition Hidradenitis Suppurativa as well as an advocate for fellow Heart Attack survivors and others, like her, living with Congestive Heart Failure.
Along with her love of film, PreShus discovered her love of K-Pop and created #AllAboutThatKpopLife, a channel made “By the Fans and For the Fans” of K-Pop music.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The greatest currency we gamble with is time. Our time on this earth is unknown. It is our job to make the most of it while impacting those around us, and leaving a lasting legacy.
In 2018, I had a heart attack at the age of 32. It was a shocker to my doctors, and everyone around me. For me, it was a wake-up call. I spent so much time doing for everyone else, pouring into my role for companies, and helping others achieve their dreams, that I had neglected my own. After healing, and some much-needed therapy, I decided to jump full force into starting my career in the entertainment industry. My leap of faith opened some amazing doors that have led me to awesome experiences, and influential partnerships that I still have to this day. All was going well, my business partner and I were traveling and filming concept pieces for a documentary in development, and then it happened again. Another heart attack. Except this one almost took me out of here. I questioned why it was happening to me again. I had been eating better, and working hard on my dreams, and I was even sprinting on the track the week before. My cardiologist assembled a team that became a major part as to why I am here today. Although it took a long time to heal and resulted in a diagnosis of Congestive Heart Failure, I know that through it all this experience happened for me, not to me. Some may not understand what I mean by that, but my appreciation for life intensified. I don’t move on autopilot anymore. Everything I do is intentional and tied to my life’s purpose, and I get up knowing that each morning I am able to open my eyes, it’s because I still have work to do. Work that will touch lives. Work that will inspire and encourage others to achieve their dreams. Work that will last long after my time is done.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met Andrea Vargas Moreno at a K-pop dance class. Some of you reading this may be wondering how this came about lol, but to be completely transparent, I am a K-pop fan and have been one ever since 2016. Although I was aware of the mega-hit “Gangnam Style” by Psy back in 2012, I wasn’t aware that it was Korean. To me, it was just a cool song that had an even cooler dance. Once I dove into the world of K-pop, I realized that there weren’t many people around me that I could share in this newly discovered world with. So, I looked up a local meet-up and saw they were offering a dance class to learn the moves to a song I was relatively familiar with. Even though I paid the admission fee, and I set the date on my calendar, it took everything in me to go to this class. Once I got there, I sat in the car contemplating my decision but eventually mustered up the courage to go inside, and I’m so glad I did. It was a brief encounter, but one that would change the course of my career and my life. Later, we met again at a local K-pop dance party and agreed to officially meet up and become friends. I shared some of my work goals and visions with her, and she shared her backstory and dreams. We both realized that the corporate world, and our roles in them, were not for us anymore and decided to join forces to form our own business. Since then, we’ve been blessed to do production for major virtual and live events, provide services for major corporate entities, and have gotten to know some really cool people, some of whom we have admired from afar for a long time. And of course, we started a K-pop business because we are #AllAboutThatKpopLife ! SutchiLee Productions Women Owned; Minority Owned; BIPOC Owned; Immigrant Owned; Boss Owned, and is our way of providing quality services in production through live streaming, film, and entertainment.
