We were lucky to catch up with Precious Russell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Precious, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I’ve been in the makeup industry for over 16 years. I’ve worked with a lot of high end brands & wasn’t happy with a lot of the products that they had to offer. A lot of the products had chemicals & fragrances that irritate the skin & eyes. Most of these products price points were high even though they contained low grade products. I wanted to create my own handcrafted line of vegan & cruelty free makeup line that was free of parabens, alcohol, mineral oil, & talc. I wanted the line to be highly pigmented no matter the customers complexion, they would find shades that were show up on their skin tones.
It took me years to perfect the formulas for my pressed pigments & glitters. I tested the formulas on myself & then had my friends and family test it. There were so many trials & errors before coming up with ingredients for my products.
Finally, in 2018 I was ready to put Glamour Edge Beauty out on the market. I offered a wide variety of pressed pigments & glitters. Currently, I also offer highlighters, blushes, & lip oils.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I create high quality handcrafted vegan & cruelty free cosmetics without the harsh ingredients & hefty price tag. I specialize in high color pay off pressed pigments, pressed glitters, highlighters, blushes, & highlighters. All my products are hypoallergenic so, people with the most sensitive eyes & skin can use my makeup line.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
I had to do a lot research on how to make makeup myself. I had to figure out what ingredients would work best for pressing makeup & ingredients that’s aren’t harsh on the skin.
I manufacture all my products by hand. I mix the pigments/glitters/highlighters/blushes & then hand press them one by one. I make each of my products in small batches for quality control. I source all my ingredients for vendors that are in the United States.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped is the fact that I was already in the makeup industry for so many years, that a lot of people trusted me. They knew I would put out only the best products. A lot of my customers are fellow make-up artists & use my products on their clients.
