Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Precious Osuji. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Precious , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My father was a businessman, and spared close to none when it came to sharing his business acumen with his children. His unmatched drive for success is something I will never forget. In 2014, he had a stroke which left a major impact on our family. This forced my mom to be the primary income maker and hold up our household. Seeing her work ethic growing up is something that has inspired me as well as instilled in me the resilience and responsibility needed to be a self sufficient individual. She would work hard and long day after day to make sure her children were not only fed, but well dressed, well educated, and well mannered, ready to take on the world.
Precious , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a business owner and artist, I balance life by maintaining both my entrepreneurial spirit and creative passion. Starting out as a makeup artist and having successful collaborations with businesses during NYFW, I then went on to found Mahogany Media LLC. We are a media and advertising company with a special interest on serving clients in the beauty and fashion industries. Our services range from OOH Advertising, such as billboards and subway transit media, to robust photo and video campaigns that convert social media viewers to instant buyers. My keen eye for quality content is what has become the staple for my business, ensuring that we represent our clients in the highest light. Beyond makeup and marketing, I use my free time to enhance my skills in other artistic passions from fine dining to portrait painting and sculpture. I believe that my diverse portfolio of skills makes me unique, and both the entrepreneurial and creative spirit are facets of my life I embrace with full confidence and dedication. My desire for embracing skills across multiple disciplines stems from Renaissance ideals such as humanism — which embraced the notion that all people could shape their destiny and reach their highest human potential through continuous learning and personal growth.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I got my first retail job working at Walgreens as a customer service associate. Though an entrepreneur at heart, I believe in doing the best job I can wherever the wind takes me. I was a very fine employee, never skipping hours, and showing up in snow storms where everyone else canceled. For two years I had saved and invested almost every dime I made to start my career in business, makeup, and art. Aiming high, I used my funds to buy only the best quality products, services, and other necessities needed to start strong.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Two years ago I skimmed the walkways of Old Bridge Public Library and picked up a worn leather book entitled “Using Ancient Wisdom in Modern Times”
The book discussed of ancient Egyptian wisdom, that crossed topics such as divinity, and how they were aware of energy as a medium to building civilization through communication with higher realms.
This inspired me to start my spiritual journey, where I put God before anything else. My communication with a higher being is what has led me to transformative ideas, profound insights, and fearlessness that enabled me to have the strength and courage to face large executives, set high goals in business and achieve them, as well as maintain the pursuit of fullness in both my company and my artistic career.
This book inspired me to start the work day with silence, using meditation as a tool to gain discipline and start the day with no fear.
