Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Precious K. Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Precious thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents are the anchor in my story! Watching them build a life from scratch, with 5 kids, as immigrants has given me a strong desire to build on their legacy. Tangibly, one of the greatest lessons they taught me is the power of collaboration and care for one another.
My sister is 13 months younger than me. I remember getting my license first along with a car. I was excited to drive us around. Shortly after that, she got her license and we thought for sure her car was coming. It did not! Our parents said we went (pretty much) all the same places and we’d have to share the car.
One night, we had 2 different places to be and asked to use the family Honda as well. Mom and dad quickly said “No, that’s dad’s car”. We had to figure it out. Over time I learned to schedule my plans with a buffer to include my sister’s plans.
We bonded, learned to work together, and got resourceful. It forced community and we are still best friends because of carpool escapades.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Before I tell you all that I do, let me tell you who I am: A daughter of God, 4th kid of 2 Ghanaian immigrants, a sister, wife, girl mom of 3, business owner and coach.
I used to be the women I serve. I was willing to burn the candle at both ends and neglect myself because that’s “what mothers do” right? I’d seen my mother do it and believed that the wear and tear of motherhood signified a “rites of passage” into another generation of strong moms.
It was in one of my emptiest moments that God reminded me of advice I’d received during my bridal shower: “You are God’s daughter first.” It hit me that, in God’s eyes, neglecting myself is just as bad as neglecting my children.
So I began to choose myself! I took my turn within my family in the game of life. I utilized the concepts that I studied in my health science and counseling degrees, as well as, my ministry experience as fuel in my transformation. As I was L.I.F.Ted I began to coach/train other mommas along the way.
My mission is to L.I.F.T moms to a higher level of health. To empower moms to fully rest in their identities as daughters of God; lifted out of the darkness of burnout and fatigue, relieved of excess physical and mental weight; and empowered to finally “take their turn” in their own lives in order to build generational health for their families.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I initially showed up on the internet, I was building a women’s empowerment brand all about positivity. I put my life on display and discussed topic highlighting faith, family, and fitness.
Building a brand that relied on me being happy all the time was not sustainable and I was depriving women who needed more depth from me. 2 years after launching my business, I hit a fork in the motherhood road. The learning curve was too steep and I felt like I was 2 steps from tumbling down hill at any moment.
Vulnerable conversations and prayers helped me realize there was nothing I could find to address my experience. It was then I decided that once my heavy season was over, I was going to create something for other mothers overwhelmed by motherhood.
After several years of personal and professional development, Mom On a Mission: Generational Health Cohort was born. Now moms have a place to express that motherhood is beautiful, but also that there is no other hood like it, a place where they are not taught to be a martyr for motherhood, and place where they can take their turn.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
There are so many great coaches out there, but what makes me different is that I can personally relate to being in a burnout cycle with no clue how to get out. My experience is not simply in my educational training in health science and counseling from Howard University and Georgia State University, but in my 75 lb natural weight loss journey before and after motherhood.
I now use my wellness and mental health background to help Moms On a Mission to improve their health, find joy in motherhood, and finally take their turn in their life.
