We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Precious Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Precious below.
Precious, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on is my annual Self-Love Event, a gathering designed to empower individuals to embrace their worth, prioritize their well-being, and celebrate themselves unapologetically.
The inspiration for this event came from my own journey with self-love. Like many people, I struggled with self-doubt, societal pressures, and the constant need to pour into others while neglecting myself. Over time, I realized that true fulfillment comes from within—and that self-love isn’t just a luxury, but a necessity. I wanted to create a space where others could experience that same realization in a supportive, uplifting environment.
What started as a small gathering has now grown into a transformative experience, bringing together individuals from all walks of life for a day of healing, empowerment, and community. From panel discussions with thought leaders to interactive workshops focused on self-care, mental health, and personal growth, the event is a safe haven for people to reconnect with themselves.
What makes this project so meaningful to me is seeing the impact it has on attendees. Year after year, I hear stories of people who walked in feeling depleted but left feeling renewed, inspired, and ready to show up for themselves in a way they never had before. That kind of transformation is priceless, and it fuels my passion to keep this movement going.
For me, self-love is a lifelong journey, and this event is my way of reminding people that they are worthy—just as they are.
Precious, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Precious Jackson, and I am a multidisciplinary artist, photographer, burlesque performer, and community builder dedicated to celebrating self-love, embodiment, and creative expression. Through my work, I help individuals—especially Black women—see themselves in a new light, step into their power, and embrace their beauty unapologetically.
How I Got into My Craft
My journey into photography and performance art was deeply personal. I’ve always been drawn to storytelling, especially stories of resilience, sensuality, and self-acceptance. As a Black woman, I know what it feels like to navigate a world that often overlooks or misunderstands us, so I wanted to create spaces where we could feel seen, valued, and celebrated.
Photography became my first medium of self-expression. What started as a passion project turned into a mission—capturing the beauty and essence of my community through intimate portraiture. Later, I discovered burlesque, a form of performance that allowed me to reclaim my body and sensuality on my own terms. The combination of these two art forms helped shape my brand, Bijoux’s Bedroom, which is rooted in self-love, empowerment, and artistic liberation.
What I Offer
I provide a range of creative and transformative experiences, including:
• Fine Art Photography: My work captures the raw beauty, confidence, and sensuality of my subjects, allowing them to see themselves as art.
• Burlesque Performance & Education: I not only perform but also create spaces for those curious about burlesque—especially introverts—who want to explore sensual movement in a way that feels safe and empowering.
• The Annual Self-Love Event: A free, immersive experience where participants receive professional photoshoots, engage in self-love discussions, and connect with a community that uplifts them.
• Creative Direction & Community Engagement: I work with artists, businesses, and brands to create impactful visual storytelling that aligns with their message.
• Upcoming Fine Art Photography Book – Precious Jewels: A Celebration of Power, Embodiment, and Self-Love: This project is a culmination of my work, highlighting the beauty and strength of my subjects through intimate photography.
What Sets Me Apart
What makes my work unique is its intentionality. I don’t just take pictures or perform—I create experiences that allow people to see and embrace themselves in new ways. I am deeply invested in the liberation of my community, using my art to challenge beauty standards, redefine sensuality, and foster spaces where people feel safe to express themselves.
I also prioritize accessibility. Many of my projects, like my annual self-love event, provide high-quality photography and creative resources at no cost, because I believe everyone deserves to see themselves reflected in art—regardless of their financial situation.
What I’m Most Proud Of
I am most proud of the moments when people tell me that my work changed how they see themselves. Whether it’s a woman who finally feels comfortable in front of a camera, a burlesque newcomer who discovers their confidence, or an individual who leaves my event feeling truly seen—those transformations are what drive me.
What I Want People to Know
If you’re someone who has ever felt unseen, unsure of yourself, or hesitant to step into your power, my work is for you. I create art, experiences, and spaces that remind you that you are already worthy.
Whether you’re looking for a creative collaborator, a photographer who will capture your essence, or an entry point into self-love and sensual movement, I’d love to connect.
Let’s create something beautiful together.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is witnessing transformation—both in myself and in those who engage with my work. Art has the power to shift perspectives, build confidence, and create moments of deep self-recognition. When someone steps in front of my camera or into a space I’ve curated and walks away feeling more seen, more powerful, or more in tune with themselves, that is the greatest reward.
As a photographer, I love capturing the raw, unfiltered essence of my subjects—the parts of themselves they may have overlooked or undervalued. Seeing someone look at their own portrait and say, “Wow, that’s really me?” with pride and joy is a moment that never gets old. It reminds me why I do this work.
As a burlesque performer and educator, the reward comes in helping others step into their own sensuality and self-expression. Watching someone go from feeling shy or unsure to embracing their movement with confidence and grace is magical. It’s about more than just performance—it’s about liberation.
Ultimately, being an artist allows me to create spaces of empowerment, healing, and celebration—especially for Black women and marginalized communities. That ability to affirm and uplift others through my art is something I cherish deeply.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, my mission is to help people see themselves more clearly, embrace their power, and feel liberated through self-love, embodiment, and artistic expression. Whether it’s through photography, burlesque, or community-building, I want my work to create space for people—especially Black women—to feel celebrated, sensual, and unapologetically themselves.
