Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Preacher . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Preacher , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I operate within a self taught realm. So what that means for me is that when I grew up I saw graffiti in the canal and I wanted to paint some myself. Overtime I have just went with it and rode the spontaneous creation flow. Trusting myself is what got me to where I am today.
I have thought about what I could have done to expedite the lengthy process. Networking would be my answer. I never met a mentor or a teacher or anything to show me hands on. Instead it took a lot longer.
Some obstacles were the taboo associations with the past time of vandalism. Most frowned on public destruction. Even if that’s not what was going on and I was merely using spray paint, the sheer act of using a can was characterized and some obscene transgression on society.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I’m a visual artist .. so I just started “getting up”… I had done graffiti my whole life… but adopted a new name and just went for it. Creating a large public body of work, I became more well known and sought after.
I’m based in art without permission. That’s what I live by and that’s what I respect. Not everyone can own art, much less have the time to seek it and buy admission. Etc etc. instead; they can enjoy free public artwork. So many people have thanked me and no one has ever complained, I just have to keep giving the people what they want.
What I am, is an anonymous identity that represents the freedom to create. There are no confinements in the public realm. I am here for the rest of my life to be creating art for the interested eye.
I do a lot of music festivals that Ask me to come out and paint .. I get a lot of people enjoying my art out there. There is nothing else like painting in front of 60,000 people. It’s crazy.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
So… I’m not a techy… but I do believe in getting your hands in the mix with any new cutting edge concepts. NFTs might be one of those. Yes; I have NFTs available; have sold the licenses to my NFTS as well. I am currently on the ethereum network operating on a decentralized platform in my attempt to bring modern next level fashion to new Orleans and the of rest of the world.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative in your experience?
Networking and being involved in events that bring together other artists. It’s so amazing getting to meet people that enjoy the same things as you. Sharing this love for aerosol art is amazing. It’s an underrated aspect that is commonly forgotten for some.
