We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Pranav Abraham Varikad. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Pranav Abraham below.
Pranav Abraham, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
From the age of 15, my lovely parents, Abraham Joseph and Indu Abraham were unwavering pillars of support for my dream of becoming a filmmaker. They understood my passion and made the intentional decision to surround me with opportunities and environments that nurtured my creative ambitions. Whether it was enrolling me in workshops, introducing me to mentors in the field, or encouraging me to participate in film-related school programs, they ensured I had access to the right people and resources. Their belief in my potential and proactive efforts to connect me with the world of filmmaking gave me the foundation and a headstart I needed to grow as a filmmaker and pursue my dreams with confidence.
The major life changing decision that they made was to buy me a camera. I could not get myself to study or to do anything else once that camera came around. I was always busy tweaking settings or taking pictures and videos of random things in my house.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Pranav Abraham Varikad, and I am a cinematographer and aspiring director with over five years of experience bringing stories to life through the lens. I specialize in crafting visually compelling narratives for short films, music videos, and commercials, blending technical expertise with a deep understanding of visual storytelling. My goal is to transform concepts into striking visuals that captivate audiences and align seamlessly with my clients’ creative visions.
What sets me apart is my ability to infuse each project with a unique cinematic style and getting into the mind of my collaborator, truly understanding the needs of their vision, coupled with an unwavering attention to detail. I take pride in creating work that not only resonates emotionally but also meets the strategic goals of the creators I collaborate with. One of my proudest achievements was having my directorial debut “Homewrecked” screened in one of the SCAD Atlanta theatres among my colleagues and professors.
For me, filmmaking is about more than just capturing beautiful imagery; it’s about telling stories that leave a lasting impact visually and mentally. It’s about taking your audience into a different world, a world away from their worries and reality.
I want potential clients and followers to know that my work reflects my passion, dedication, and a commitment to pushing creative boundaries to deliver exceptional results.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
As an artist who works behind the camera, it is always satisfying to see the smile that appears on a client’s face when they see what I had executed visually for a project. There’s an incredible satisfaction in seeing the joy in my work that ultimately makes me happy too.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
My father has always encouraged me to read, be it self help books or just fiction. I have learned that reading incites your creative and imaginative engines like no other.
My favorites include “The Monk who sold his Ferrari”, “5AM Club” and “The Kite Runner” by Robin Sharma and Khaled Hosseini, respectively.
