We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Prabal Chaudhri. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Prabal below.
Prabal, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
When my daughter was born, I became really curious about the food we eat. After learning more about food systems, the impact of climate change on production, and food waste as an issue, I realized that the food system was broken. Additionally, food access is key given the growing world population (>10 Billion by 2050). When I looked at the snack aisles in grocery stores, I saw options that were full of carbs and sugars. As consumers, we are often forced to compromise and choose between taste and nutrition. BRAVE GOOD KIND was founded to create responsible protein-led food solutions that will help people live healthier lives. As I embarked on a journey to dig deeper, I heard from women and their families about the unmet need for a tenderly, delicious snack without sugary spikes of energy from guilt-inducing ingredients. That’s why we created Brave Good Kind’s first product line: the Tender Chicken Bites & Bars.

Prabal, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I grew up in a small town in India where my parents instilled the value of hard work, ‘never-give-up’ attitude and education at an early stage. I am an extrovert and always found fulfillment in taking risks and doing things out of my comfort zone. After completing my undergrad in engineering, I opted to pursue sales and marketing where I learnt the fundamentals of running a business and brand building. I was also fascinated with the power of storytelling where brands could define their purpose and inspire people to live their best lives. After my MBA from Northwestern and working with companies such as P&G, I decided to pursue my own entrepreneurial path. Fast forward to today, I’m the CEO and Founder of Brave Good Kind. At Brave Good Kind (BGK), we make all-natural, gluten-free, high protein snacks that are easy to eat and deliciously tender. Made with real, wholesome ingredients like antibiotic-free chicken, sea salt, and spices, BGK chicken bites & bars give your body a lasting boost to accomplish all that you need to do – without spikes, dips, or crashes. Our tender Chicken Bites and Bars contain no MSG or added nitrates, and come in three succulent flavors – Original, Teriyaki and Hot Honey. Brave Good Kind was born to elevate the stagnant jerky category which, until BGK, was primarily made from beef, hard to chew and overwhelmingly focused on men. Brave Good Kind was created to give women and kids a healthier snacking option made from a more sustainable and leaner protein (chicken).

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
As a brand, Brave Good Kind exists to serve (fuel) its customers. We keep women at the center of everything we do and have an omnichannel presence so that we are available with our products and platform whenever women raise their hand. BRAVE GOOD KIND’s purpose is to support, encourage, and inspire women to be changemakers, while being unapologetically themselves. Through our platform, we believe in spreading positivity, creating a support system that can help break down gender bias barriers, and providing a platform where women will feel empowered to do things or voice their unfiltered opinion around what matters most to them. Our brand identity & communication choices are designed to appeal to women and their beliefs. Through platforms like Instagram and Tik Tok, we provide fun, uplifting and relatable content to nurture and grow our community. We partner with creators and organizations that share our values to further build brand awareness and affinity towards our brand.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Building a startup in the middle of the pandemic for a successful launch required resilience. Being an entrepreneur is challenging, but doing it with the uncertainty of COVID -19 was brutal. Whether it was concept validation, supply chain, hiring, or raising capital, every aspect of business fundamentals was more complex. In spite of that, I was able to stick to my vision, remain consistent with my process and launched a consumer-loved brand that gained national distribution (>5000 stores) in less than two years.
