We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Porsha Roy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Porsha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name of my company; Wandering Wine Glass came about quite easily. When I knew I wanted to start this business I wanted a name that would give an idea to the category of product being manufactured, but I also wanted the name to represent me and my journey. I am a big talk-out-loud-to-myself type of person when I brainstorm ideas. One afternoon I was just spitting out randoms words that I related to who I am and my experiences and Wandering Wine Glass flew out of my mouth and all the bells and whistles went off in my head so I knew that that was the one. I love to travel all over the world and have lived in 9 states and counting now so I am a proud nomad and always will be and no matter where I go I seek out all the wine, hence Wandering Wine Glass. So as much as it is a name for my brand, it is a name for myself as well.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello readers! I would like to introduce you to Wandering Wine Glass. Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Wandering Wine Glass offers a unique experience for food & wine enthusiasts, by providing the best artisan-made Wine Jelly. The home cook, foodie, wine aficionado, amateur chef, culinary whiz or Anthony Bourdain wanna-be will love this exclusive food spread that pairs with an endless amount of foods ranging from sweet to savory. Check out the recipes and pairing ideas on the website!
With 10 flavors there is a variety to please any palate; a variety to compliment any dish. Established in 2016, it continues to be delightfully unexpected!
Wandering Wine Glass Wine Jelly comes in an array of sizes and flavors that include: Basil Pinot Noir, Cabernet, Ginger Rosé, Jalapeño Grigio, Lavender Chardonnay, Maple Merlot, Mint Moscato, Peach Bellini, Sangria and Spiced Red Wine. Sugar-Free is also available in limited flavors.
I have developed, tested and produced all flavor combinations and jelly recipes. Keeping the Wine Jelly as whole and simple as possible is very important to my business. The ingredients and flavors shine through on their own, without introducing chemicals, dyes and artificial flavors into the recipes. In my opinion, the way food should be. Everything is handmade in small batches with quality ingredients. Wine Jelly brings originality and imagination to people who love food and wine! Everyday I am so grateful I get to share my product with the world.
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
Wandering Wine Glass is sold on multiple eCommerce sites. The main spot to find Wine Jelly is the Wandering Wine Glass website: www.wanderingwineglass.com . The main website is the best place to find the products at the best price. Another eCommerce site is Etsy at www.etsy.com/shop/WanderingWineGlass. For wholesale, Wine Jelly is for sale on Faire at wanderingwineglass.faire.com . All three sites have their pros and cons. The pro of my own site is that there is no fees or commission taken by an outside company and I can have my site look like anything I want it to look like. The con is that I need to drive my own traffic to my site and keep up with the SEO. The pros and cons to Faire and Etsy are both the same. The pros is that both sites have a huge amount of traffic driving to their sites on a daily basis and they handle all the SEO and algorithms. In order to access those pros though, you have to deal with the con which is the high fees and commissions artisans have to pay to be able to sell through their sites. Yet the amount of sales from those sites make the con a cost of doing business.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think the reason I have only 5 start reviews is because my brand is reliable, honest, beautiful, trustworthy and of course, delicious. I respond quickly to customer inquiries, I ship fast and on time, I offer fair pricing on the products and shipping, the packaging is unique and eye-catching and the variety of jellies are appealing to a multitude of people. I keep my recipes simple and whole to create a flavorful, hand-made product that shows in the taste and experience of the Wine Jelly. Consistency is key in this market.
