We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Porsche Shanell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Porsche below.
Hi Porsche, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
Honestly, sooner. At the time, my business was a needed pivot due to COVID. Prior I was in my feild working as an Esthetician indepent contractor and did freelancing as a MUA frequently. I always wanted to own a beauty/skincare line but never moved on it. Once COVID hit, freelancing was out the window; I had to figure out a way to create income from home. That’s when I decided to take the leap of faith and start my product line. One thing I regret was how intemidated and impressionable I was. Had I stayed focused on what I wanted, what felt natural to me and not what was trending, I know I would be telling a different story. Had I started sooner a lot of the kinks would have been worked out. I would have failed enough, and figured out exactly what I wanted my business to offer that scaling would have been easier because I would feel secure in my brands identity.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hey Y’all! My name is Porsche’ Shanell, I like to classify myself as an Entrepreneur because I always have something going on lol. I am the owner of PurEuphorix my self-care brand that I am relaunching, I am a Licensed Aesthetician who specializes in natural brow care and services, makeup lessons, and services as a professional MAC Certified Makeup Artist, and I am in the process of building my skill in lash artistry. I also hold the position of President of a Non-Profit called Evolving Thru Art which is geared towards cultivating healthy creative expression with the underserved youth with exposure, mentorship, and community throughout Houston. For me, it started in my adolescent years. My grandfather was very intentional about taking me to markets and such, not only for shopping but to watch others make money off their talents. Not only that, when he wasn’t working he was doing something that required his creativity and hands to make money. He always included me in some way with his different endeavors, so I was raised to be observant, always be open to learning, always have my hands in something positive, be of service in the best way, and hold a good reputation for whatever I do, because all you have is your name and your word. With that, I also developed a love for the beauty industry at an early age, and honestly, the talents came naturally to me. I love being in the position to help others, I’m able to help women feel beautiful and confident, support and help the youth find creative ways of expression, and overall help others show up as the best version of themselves through my testimonies. It gives me a rush I can’t explain because it’s never just an act of service for me. I’m an intentional person who constantly builds relationships and pours into my clients and customers.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Take the time to develop your craft/business and stay true to yourself; the success will come. It’s easy to get wrapped up in what everyone else has going on; trying to keep up and fit the mold of your industry will destroy your vision. This is what happened to my business the first time around. I was so focused on trying to keep up with everyone else that I was not staying true to the vision God gave me. I was in such a rush to keep up others that I wasted sssooo much time and money. I ended up with unnecessary inventory, and I no longer knew how to reach and market to my audience. I got to a point where I was overwhelmed and frustrated. Like, someone giving you a beautiful puzzle to complete but when you open the box, the image on all the pieces is distorted. My passion became a dred because not only did I have my sight on other companies’ achievements, I tried to jump ahead so far that I ended up losing sight of the original vision God gave me.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Definitely my character, my knowledge, and my consistency. Three things anyone who has worked with me can contest are #1, I have a big heart; It’s not about the service, product, or money but the encounter that’s exchanged. What I offer is way more than what I charge. #2, “I don’t know” is never an answer, if I offer something I’m extremely knowledgeable about it, even if it’s something off-subject. If it’s something I’m not sure about, we’re about to learn together, lol. With that #3, I take my client’s/customer’s happiness seriously, I am intentional, and I don’t halfway do anything when it comes to business.
