We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Porscha Carter a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Porscha, appreciate you joining us today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
After receiving my bachelors in Public Health I took a program at General Hospital at Meharry as a Cardiographic Technician. I was trained to read heart rhythms and hookup EKGs to patients for doctors. Later on after completing that certification. I became a Laser Technician and would work in the OR room for different hospitals operating lasers for surgeries. Having different experiences in the healthcare field I would gain so much knowledge. Healthcare field is so broad so I would gain a plethora experience in different areas. A few years back I received my Masters in Healthcare Administration and now I am a Lab Liaison that works with epidemiologists and Covid cases. I continue to evaluate my career and this is only the beginning for me.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Porscha Carter born and raised in Nashville TN. I have been modeling for over 2 years now. My first ever gig was this event called Trap Art in Nashville and since that event everything as far as booking, photo shoots etc has too off for me, I have walked in LA Fashion Week, I have been one of the models for the Talk of the Town on News Channel 5, Macys Fashion Show etc.’I have been in a plethora of runway fashions and have done plenty of photo shoots. Since I was 7 years old I have always had people come up to saying how I should be a model. I have always aspire to be one especially when I was a little girl and I would always watch Americas Next Top Model. Considering that I am not the tallest I would never let that discourage me because I knew if I apply myself I could to still be in all the top tier events for models tall or short. I have only been doing this for two years and so far I am beyond proud of myself. I have networked would a lot of good people in the model Industry and that is what I look forward too. I have so many exciting modeling projects in 2023 I just can’t wait for the world to see.
I am also a Social Media Influencer. I continue to grow my brand each and every day and so far I have over 11,000 followers on Instagram and 32,000 followers on Tiktok. I am a Brand Ambassador for many companies/brands and continue to make content all the time. I am very consistent when it is time for me to do my job on social media and I really enjoy it. I feel it is a benefit that I do have a high following because I tend to have a lot of exposure for myself on my page for big brands to reach out to me for collaborations and modeling. I really love what I do and I am going to continue to elevate myself and let my work speak for itself.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I would say networking networking networking. In my experience that’s what has gain exposure to me. Always go to networking events and for models during Models Calls it is imperative to always have your comp card on you. It will benefit you and the designer in the long run. Also stay consistent in what you do and let it be known how serious you are about it. You have to be your number one fan so promote yourself to the fullest.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Absolutely. I love being in the healthcare field and in the modeling industry. When I was a little girl I would go to the hospital where my grandmother worked. She introduced me to that type of life for caring for people and I just fell in love. I just knew this is the type of industry I wanted to educate myself in as I became an adult and I have enjoyed it ever since. As far as modeling I always knew I would be a model. I always gravitate towards it, when I was a little girl and with people telling me how I should be a model just solidified it for me.. plus it was so natural when I took pictures I was never shy in from the camera if anything I wanted my cameras lol. I would consider myself a very strategic person and always have a plan for myself for my future. I am really proud of myself of far I have came for both industries and I know this is only the beginning for me.
