We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Porcsha Lloyd a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Porcsha, thanks for joining us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
At this time, I handle my own social media. As my business grows, I would like to hire someone or a team to manage it. In addition to knowing that times are changing, I want to ensure I’m aligned with the platform’s algorithms so I can capture customers’ attention.
Porcsha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello, everyone, I’m Porcsha Lloyd, and welcome! I am a fun, loving, giving individual who loves God, my hubby, family, food, laughs, and traveling! I’m originally from Kansas City, MO but have lived in Oklahoma where I got both my degrees and I’ve been in Dallas, TX for the past 6 years. I’m a person that wants the best not only for myself but those I care about and anyone I come in contact with.
How you got into your industry / business / discipline / craft etc?
I got into the industry of retail & e-commerce by taking a leap of faith. I’ve always wanted to own my own boutique and the opportunity presented itself and I went for it! I’ve always loved different colors, patterns, and cool items and when opening my business it felt right to do it at this time.
What type of products/services/creative works you provide?
Kute & Komfi offers a range of distinctive styles for women of all ages. Offering quality material, comfort, and a unique and cheerful flair. The K&K brand embodies uniqueness, empowerment, comfort, expression, and confidence. Among our products are sweaters, dresses, blouses, pants, shoes, accessories, jackets, purses, and travel totes.
What problems you solve for your clients and/or what you think sets you apart from others.
I wouldn’t necessarily say that I solve problems for my customers, but that more or so I assist with what can be a challenge sometimes. As women we go through a lot of different changes that consist of our style, look, body mindset, and overall us in general as we grow and mature. So when it comes to feeling comfortable and still feeling cute it provides a sense of I feel good in what I’m wearing and still look cute to the eye. So to be set apart from others, I can’t say that I’m apart from anything because my sole focus is my business and what works best for my brand. I have the ability to find what works for it within itself while staying true to it.
What are you most proud of and what are the main things you want potential clients/followers/fans to know about you/your brand/your work/ etc?
The biggest accomplishment I have made so far is being a part of 7 different pop-up shops this past year. As a result of my leap of faith, I was able to showcase my business in these markets. The experience started with supporting a fellow small business owner at their pop-up shop to becoming a part of one myself. I am extremely proud of my business and was thrilled that this happened during our first year of operation! The main thing I want potential followers, customers, and anyone who may encounter the Kute & Komfi brand is that we provide the pieces, but you as a person design your masterpiece! We embody peace, joy, comfort, love, warmth, and all the good feels of feeling good and looking good at the same time! We handpick and select each item for the boutique in hopes of connecting with others who have similar tastes. This allows us to engage with all who enjoy similar fashion styles while still embracing their uniqueness.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been word of mouth and participating in local pop-up shops and markets. In doing so, I’ve been able to engage with a lot of people as well as provide my social media accounts for potential customers to keep up with the business as well as be informed when new products are released.
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
My website is built with Shopify. The experience with Shopify has been seamless and easy so far. When starting a business, there are a lot of things one is not privy to, and sometimes it feels like walking into an unknown realm. Using Shopify, it’s extremely user-friendly, and you can easily customize your site to make it exactly how you want it to be with their variety of tools and techniques. Customer service is excellent. When reaching out with certain concerns and questions, they respond quickly. Provides most of the tools you’ll need to run a successful website.
