We were lucky to catch up with Pollux King recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Pollux thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?

I don’t think I ever had any big realization. That’s just my job. That’s what I’m here to do. I knew that ever since I was a tiny, sassy little kid. All I wanted to do was sing to everyone and tell them I love them and they’re special.

Pollux, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My mission? To be my fucking self. As authentically as I can. That gets so beat out of us. We lose so much joy and pleasure and self love. I love when you watch someone being truly and unapologetically themselves. It gives you permission to do the same. It inspires you to wear that outfit because you DO look hot, dump that idiot that treats you like shit, move to France and do the thing that makes you HAPPY.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?

PAY THEM. Share their work. Be loud about artists you love and that inspire you. We’re not gonna get into the deeper issues of the industries at large, but just as an individual, YOU MATTER. You are the only one that really does matter. Your voice matters. That $3 matters. Sending a quick DM telling someone the thing they poured their soul into touched you in some way… MATTERS.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

Being perfect, and that people only want to see perfection. That was the media standard as I grew up, and its changing so beautifully now. It’s been a lot of work to start unraveling that and allowing myself to be a human on social media. I’m still actively working on how to share in a way that feels right for me. I know a lot of us are in that same space. How to be vulnerable in a way thats not damaging on the fucking internet.
