Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to POCKiT. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Moi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
“En Camino – On Our Way” is a culmination of our collective journey as a band. We drew inspiration from our own experiences, both individually and as a group, and channeled that into our music. The album reflects our diverse backgrounds, musical influences, and the vibrant energy of the South Florida music scene. Also, it reflects the band’s experience of our show with incredible musicians from our tour visit to Mexico.

Moi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Absolutely! POCKiT is not just a band; we’re a collective of musicians on a mission to redefine the boundaries of funk and jazz music. Our journey began as a collaboration between Chip Gardner on keyboards, Moises Linares on drums and cymbals, and Jason Spencer on bass back in 2017. We were drawn together by our shared passion for music and a desire to create something truly unique.
As we continued to evolve and refine our sound, we welcomed new members into the fold, including rising bassist Joshua Walton and up-and-coming guitarist Sebastian Pareja. Together, we’ve crafted a sound that blends elements of funk, jazz, rock, and Latin rhythms to create a sonic experience unlike any other.
Our latest album, “En Camino – On Our Way”, is a testament to our collective journey as a band. Drawing inspiration from our own experiences and the vibrant music scenes of South Florida and Mexico, the album is a fusion of diverse influences and musical styles. From the infectious grooves of “Mocoso” to the soulful melodies of “No Headlights”, each track on the album tells a story and invites listeners to join us on our musical odyssey.
We pride ourselves on our ability to bring together musicians from different backgrounds and genres to create music that is both innovative and inclusive. We’re not afraid to experiment with new sounds and styles, and we’re always looking for new ways to challenge ourselves creatively.
Whether it’s sharing the stage with Grammy winners like Itawe Correa and Jota Freire or collaborating with local musicians in South Florida and Mexico, we’re constantly amazed by the talent and creativity that surrounds us.
We’re grateful for the support of our fans and followers, and we’re excited to continue our musical journey together.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
There’s something incredibly gratifying about knowing that our music has the power to evoke emotions, spark inspiration, and create meaningful connections with listeners. Whether it’s seeing someone move to our songs at a live show or receiving messages from people on social media who have been moved by our songs, the knowledge that we’re making a positive impact through our art is truly fulfilling.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
The music industry can be a challenging journey, particularly when it involves a group of creatives collaborating on music. In today’s fast-paced world of social media, artists often seek instant gratification for their work rather than creating innovative music that can stand the test of time and impact future generations. Therefore, it is crucial to focus on producing music that is meaningful and has a lasting influence, rather than merely creating content that provides short-term satisfaction.
