We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Poca Nova a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Poca , appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Hello. My name is Poca Nova. I’m a music artist from Birmingham, Alabama. Life are full of risks. You have to stop being scared of the unknown and jump. That one move you are afraid to take may be the one to change your life forever. I myself had to take many risks in life. I moved to Dallas, Texas with only 1,000 dollars. I had no family or friends here. The first 3 months were the most challenging experiences I had to endure. I’m so glad I conquered because two years later I’m still here and tthriving. My music has grown tremendously, my youtube channel has tripled in numbers and the opportunities are unlimited. The risk was definitely worth the reward.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m an ambitious pisces. I’m super silly and serious. Very hardworking and always looking to elevate. I am never satisfied in life. I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing but it works for me. I have always had a youtube channel but I would only post music. In December of 2023 I took a course from my mentor Kemoy Martin who told me “you have a great personality and you are very intriguing. Why don’t you upload videos of yourself as a person showing that?” So I quit my 9-5 a few weeks later and started doing youtube Full-time. It took like 6 months before I saw major growth. I’m not telling anyone to quit your job because you can work a job and also work on your business. Trust me! Make sure to subscribe to my channel PocaNova1.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Lessons I had to learn throughout this journey is you will take losses. I would invest thousands of dollars into my brand and get scammed. I know you have to spend money to make money but people would run off with my money. Even people who were further ahead in life than me. I would be so confused and angry. Then I remember that karma is real and GOD don’t play about me! It didn’t stop me, I just would continue to move forward.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, the mission driving my success is becoming the first millionaire in my family. I am the celebrity of the family and the generational curse breaker. All generations to come will know that I am the one who broke the bondage and chains. We will lack no more. I will be the first millionaire in my family but not the last.
