Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to PMX. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
PMX, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
When we started this group, none of us had any experience being musicians or content creators, so naturally everything is a game of trial and error as we experiment with different projects and ideas. When it came time to shoot our debut music video- though we’d spent many months planning and trying to think ahead- we ran into a few issues that led to big changes in our video. The house-party themed video was to take place entirely in the evening, so we planned to black out the windows in our Airbnb to shoot some interior footage during the day. Unfortunately we hadn’t realized that the house we rented was covered in floor to ceiling windows, making it nearly impossible to cover them all. This cut our filming time virtually in half, causing us to film well into the morning two nights in a row. These schedule changes also affected our use of extras, leading us to re-write the ending of the video on the spot when shooting. Regardless of the frustration and stress, we are all proud of how we were able to think on our feet and adapt to the changes thrown at us! We are grateful for the much-needed experience and very happy with the final product.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
PMX was started by our leader Cyren! She’d always wanted to be a part of a girl group like Spice Girls or Destiny’s Child, so she decided to start one herself and open auditions via social media. Once the rest of the members joined the group, we began to experiment with the type of sound we wanted to have and how we wanted to portray ourselves to our audience. As a group, our biggest values are authenticity and freedom of expression, We don’t aim to have a specific target audience- our music and other visual content is meant to be an expression of who we are artistically and personally, in hopes that our work resonates with others and inspires them to be themselves in turn. We are most proud of how far we’ve come as artists and how we have grown to appreciate and value each other through the creative process. We are truly just four best friends making art that we love- and we hope to garner an audience that appreciates us and what we do.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Our primary goal is to make music and art that expresses who we are as authentically as we can. We view success as always being proud of what we create together, no matter the size of our audience, so as long as we are doing what feels right in the moment and making art that we love, then we will always be successful.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspects of being in a girl group are definitely seeing a creative vision come to life with the help of your best friends, and connecting with other creatives along the way. We’ve all got such big, unique ideas that we are constantly working tirelessly to pull off. The best feeling is releasing a project that everyone is proud of- and then immediately beginning the next one. Getting to know local creatives and working with them is always a rewarding and encouraging experience. We’ve really grown to appreciate the art of collaboration through our craft and are always looking forward to connecting to other artists that share our vision and values.
