We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Plush Beauty. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Plush below.
Hi Plush , thanks for joining us today. Do you manage your own social media?
Yes, Plush Beauty does and always has managed our own social media platforms and presence. We made the choice to manage our own social media as a new business to save funds by utilizing our own preexisting skills and abilities. Ciara – one of our co-owners – has a manager for her music career that she learned many useful tips and tactics from that we knew we could implement into our social media approach for Plush Beauty.
By managing our own social media, we were able to achieve our social media goals within the first week. We enhanced our marketing strategy by interacting with our followers and getting them to tell others to follow our page. We also follow other influencers and entrepreneurs who we look up to and take notes from their marketing and presentation.
The lesson we would love to share with other business owners thinking about managing their own social media is to ALWAYS be willing to dive into your own creativity and unique approach to carving out your own path by just starting with what you’re already capable of doing yourself. You never know if you don’t try.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Best friends and business partners Serina Woods and Ciara Parker created Plush Beauty to provide a self-loving treat to anyone aiming to enjoy a modern life of luxury through beauty products tailored to an elevated experience. Since Co-Owners Ciara and Serina share a battle with the skin condition eczema, it was important that the line be created as a vegan and all-natural based brand to be mindful of customers who have sensitive skin and have to be cautious of the harsh chemicals and fragrances often included in most industry skin care products.
Plush Beauty’s 1st and 2nd Collections – PlushBucks and Plush Nudes respectively – are each a set of all-natural handcrafted vegan glosses. PlushBucks was inspired by the co-owners’ love of Starbucks and included glosses tailored after their favorite drinks. Plush Nudes was inspired by the appreciation for classic nude shades that serve as staples to every makeup regiment. Plush Beauty also now offers moisturizing vegan lip masks (originally given as a free gift) and plans to continue to expand products to include: lipsticks, lip oils, lip balms, lip scrubs, beard oils, perfumes, lotions, lashes, body butter, and more.
The Plush Beauty line solves the problem of filling the skin care gap for those who have sensitive skin while still providing a luxury experience. This sets us apart from other businesses because we put care into prioritizing the health and time of our customers who can spend hours searching for safe products for their skin just to still endure breakouts or allergic reactions. We want our customers to have the best experience in choosing quality products to use for years to come.
As a business we are most proud of our perseverance and work ethic which allows us to reach the goals of our business and continue to expand to new heights.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
We met each other in college through a mutual friend. Upon graduation, we started to communicate more in an effort to support the same mutual friend through her personal hardships. The same persistence, creativity and ingenuity of thought that we used to support our friend ended up being the same attributes that would prove to bring us closer together and create the foundation for our eventual shared business.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A time we had to pivot in our business was during the launch of our first collection – PlushBucks. During the assembly of our first lip gloss collection we were shocked to discover that the quantity, consistency and pigment of the bases we had selected were nowhere near our calculated expectations; nor near what was advertised. This caused a stressful launch where we did not have the amount of products or quality that we expected. Upon reaching out to the vendor – who was also the vendor for our lip gloss boxes at the time – and expressing our concerns we were met with resistance, blame and disagreement.
We made the difficult decision to stop working with our current vendor and to select a brand new vendor to restock bases for our first collection. We proceeded to conduct exhaustive research and did our best to consider all lessons learned without being paranoid or fearful of the selection of another bad vendor. We swiftly landed on an amazing vendor who turned out to have better: product options and customizations, communication and reviews. This second vendor selection allowed us to quickly restock our bases and pivot to be able to execute our initial vision for our first collection ultimately providing a better quality product to our customers.
