We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Plane Mane. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Plane below.
Plane , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Probably the first time I watched a music video on BET or MTV. I was stuck lol ..music had always played an important part of my life. I never knew what I really wanted to do career wise besides basketball, but music always followed me. I was big on being fly and those music videos gave me a visual behind the music and they were always fly and I knew I was fly so that aligned with me perfectly.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into the industry around 2017, but I had been doing music since about 4th grade. I wasn’t recording anything at that time of course, but I was always writing in class or at home. It was almost like I was preparing for something I had no idea was coming that’s the only way I can explain it. I offer Artist Development for artist of all genres. A lot of ppl think that you can just upload your music and get signed which you can but it’s rare that it happens like that. You have to put in 1,000 hours, sleepless nights, invest your money, you’re going to lose friends, relationships, miss out on fun etc. It’s a lot that goes into it and I’ve been able to bring this understanding to artist that had no guidance, but a strong passion for music. It’s a business and you gotta be all in or nothing at all. You gotta know how to move around and network and put yourself in position. Even if it’s not the progress you were expecting you gotta lose to win. I most proud of just being able to stay active and consistent. You see a lot of ppl come and go in this business. I’m that I sat back and took the time to learn instead of waiting on somebody to teach me. That’s what sets me apart. I’ve had great mentors that are still in my life today, but on this journey you recognize it’s not about what somebody else can do for you. It’s about what you can do for you. Anything else is just a plus and even then you have to capitalize off of that. No matter what you just have to keep going. You never quit learning.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The fans is the most rewarding part as an artist. To know that you have a following who loves you because of your craft is everything and they don’t even know you, but they like you and they vibe to you they mimic you and are excited to see you and for you. That’s big energy and it’s unmatched.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The best thing society can do is support period. Come out to shows , like that status, share those pictures and content from the artist. You never know who might like it, but the more you put it out for your fans and the more they share it, it gives someone you don’t know a chance to know you and learn you.
