Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Piret Aava. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Piret, thanks for joining us today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
Grew up in Estonia and I moved to the US in the early 2000s. I started as a Make-up Artist and Certified Esthetician, working across salons and TV sets in the Northeast. Eventually, shifted my focus to becoming a brow expert, became a Cosmetic Tattoo Specialist and opened Eyebrow Doctor. We’re now across three different coasts, Eyebrow Doctor has blown up, and I’ve made a name for myself as someone to see for brows. From one small office in Tribeca, I now have studios in West Village NYC, South Beach Miami and West Hollywood LA.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Microblading truly does change people’s lives. We’ve seen clients come in hating their brows and then 1 hour leave with a noticeable glow because they are so happy. Others who can’t stop looking at themselves in their phone cameras after laying on my table. You don’t realize how important eyebrows are until you have some that you love. With beauty standards now, making people feel beautiful continues to be one of the best parts of my job.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social media continues to be one of the most important factors in gaining new clients. Whether it’s someone posting on their story after their appointment, or answers a question about their brows and tags Eyebrow Doctor in their answer — I’m grateful for every time someone shares my work with someone who may not have seen it.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built and run my IG accounts: @EyebrowDoctor @PiretAava @BodyRollStudio from scratch and I’m super proud of them. My advice is: be persistent, get canva and get an app that helps you plan content and posts, I use PLANOLY.
