We were lucky to catch up with Pincel Galactic recently and have shared our conversation below.
Pincel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I have been an artist since I first picked up a pencil and started drawing. intuitively I have always had the idea of creating art as a way of living. Over time though, everyday obligations and societal conditions blurred the vision of the path that had already been set. But even during those times I was always making room to draw and paint, Frustration grew stronger and became the catalyst feeling that brought me back to the path where I felt most present. That’s when I realized I wanted to take art to a professional level.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Pincel Galactic AKA Juan Jimenez, a visual artist exploring an alternative retro-futuristic universe where technology serves humans to maximize their potencial. Blending Latin-American and world traditions, spiritual paths and states of consciousness, thus defying the typical dystopian themes we often see in media such movies, books and so on. I use different mediums of expression with a strong foundation in painting (fine art and murals), and spreading into illustration, fashion design, performance and installations creating a unique aesthetic that can be implemented into fine art as well as physical and digital products. I have had some amazing experiences working on personal and collaborative projects and each one of them have made me incredibly proud, so it is hard to point at a particular one and say it is my favorite as they all bring different challenges. Although I must say that this year, I painted a mural in Bogota, Colombia with the help of my family and loved ones and it was one of the most satisfying experiences. Cannot wait to do it again..
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Often times I find myself observing how a painting, illustration or design I’m working on unveils, giving me the feeling of being the tool or medium In which information that comes from the intangible channels onto the three dimensional realm. It’s a feeling of letting go and allowing the flow of creativity take the driver seat. To be both the viewer and the maker make up an incredibly rewarding human experience hard to be put into words
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFT’s are part of a new dimension where human expression also exists, it is precisely the human presence within these spaces that make it interesting, although when art is created for the sole porpoise of monetization, it stops becoming a bearer of culture and tradition rather to be a product and that is where the scale seems to be tilting.
In my humble opinion, I will always pick something that has been made by an actual human and can be appreciated with all of the senses. that is the most authentic art experience..
