Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Pilar Ortiz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Pilar, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I have been a Director of People and Culture for more than 10 years, working with luxury hotel brands. I have enjoyed a wonderful career, working in various countries such as Venezuela, Mexico, Costa Rica, and the United States. My expertise lies in being a successful Human Resources Director. Alongside my professional journey, I have always nurtured my spiritual side, which has grown stronger over time.
In 2019, I was transferred from Costa Rica to the United States as the Director of People and Culture for a luxury hotel in Seattle. It was my first executive position in the United States. Six months into this role, COVID-19 struck, presenting some of the most challenging moments of my career and life. Throughout the pandemic, I worked tirelessly under immense stress, which led me to reconsider my future in HR. I asked myself what would make me truly happy while also providing a livelihood.
In 2021, I accepted a new job in the same field and moved to Nashville. I left my previous company, where I had worked for over 16 years, to embark on a new adventure. For two years, I was happy, but internal changes led to stress and dissatisfaction. This prompted me to seek refuge in my unwavering spirituality. I trained to become a Reiki Master, resigned from my job, and founded my own Human Resources Consultancy while promoting Reiki.
Leaving a secure job after + 18 years of experience working with corporations in a foreign country was challenging, but through Reiki and other techniques, I learned to trust my intuition. I have learned to listen to the universe and the Reiki energy to guide every step of my life. After starting my company, I gained three clients and earned nearly the same income as before. Simultaneously, I studied other spiritual techniques and became certified in QHHT (Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique by Dolores Cannon), adding hypnosis to my practice.
For seven months, I balanced my consultancy and spiritual practice until I accepted another hotel job in downtown Nashville. I am very happy with my current position, and I continue to work with Reiki and other methods. My company remains open, and I am transitioning its focus to wellness, with the goal of dedicating myself entirely to Reiki and healing techniques to help others.
I have learned that divine timing is perfect, and I strive to flow with life, stay in the present moment, and trust that I will always be in the right place at the right time. Leaving my job to start my company removed my fear of job loss and dependency on corporations to pay the bills. Fear and worry are wasted energy; trusting the divine energy of the universe brings joy and peace. I am very grateful for my life and love being here in the United States.

Pilar, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a proud Mexican, born and raised in the vibrant heart of Mexico City. With a degree in Human Resources, my journey has been both personal and professional, deeply rooted in my homeland where my mother and sister still live. I’ve been blessed with a loving marriage to my forever boyfriend, Rommer, and we share our home with two wonderful dogs. A nature lover at heart, I find peace and inspiration in the world around me.
My spiritual journey began early. My mother loves to tell a story about how, as a child, I tried to feed poor kids on TV with my milk bottle, moved by their plight. This compassion has always been a part of me. At fifteen, I read “Metaphysic 4 in 1” by Cony Méndez and chose to connect with God directly, without intermediaries.
At twenty-three, I ventured out from home to Puerto Vallarta, where I landed my first job at a luxury hotel. It was during this time that I sought balance in my life and was told I would find my true love in Venezuela. True to the prophecy, I met my husband when I was transferred there to open a new hotel. I have always believed that flowing with life leads to the right path, and this belief has guided me well.
Rommer and I married in 2003, embarking on a shared journey of meditation and spiritual exploration. In 2009, we moved to Playa del Carmen and embraced Buddhism, which has grounded us and enriched our emotional lives. Our practice has been a cornerstone of our enduring, joyful relationship. Rommer is the most important person in my life; he is my husband, best friend, and he keeps me grounded. We have been together for 23 years, and I still feel butterflies in my stomach when he gets home.
We love to travel, and during the time we lived in Costa Rica, we traveled to various places in Asia and Europe. In Asia, we visited countries like Cambodia, Malaysia, India, Nepal, Hong Kong, Thailand, Myanmar, and China. I could write a whole book about our travels. We visited many Buddhist temples and meditated in several of them. This period was a spiritual encounter with ourselves and a wonderful time for us.
As I began practicing Reiki, I discovered a profound ability to connect with the divine realm, receiving messages that helped transform and heal my patients. Two years ago, a Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT) session deepened my connection with my higher self, reaffirming that I have always been guided by this inner wisdom.
Now, I understand that we are all connected to a higher consciousness. I believe humanity is on a path to evolving into a higher state of awareness, and together, we can create a better world.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I can say that I had a wonderful life with amazing parents. However, from ages 16 to 22, I faced significant challenges. During this time, my father lost his job, leading to financial difficulties from which we never fully recovered. Before this period, my father had a great job, and we enjoyed traveling and a life of abundance. He wanted to give my sister and me everything he lacked growing up, which, in retrospect, spoiled us a little.
The transition from having everything to experiencing constant lack was a profound lesson. I remember feeling sad and worried about my parents and our financial situation. During this time, I also broke up with my boyfriend, who had been a refuge during those tough times, leaving me feeling depressed and desiring nothing but sleep.
One thing that kept me going was a book on metaphysics my mom gave me. I practiced daily affirmations, focused on the positive, and visualized a better future. I also discovered a book about guardian angels and started communicating with mine, whom I named Joaquin. Joaquin became a source of comfort and guidance and believe me we all have a guardian angel or more and they are always with us guiding us as much as we allow them, since they can not interfere with our will.
With my parents’ immense effort, I was able to finish college and begin a fulfilling career in Human Resources at one of the most wonderful companies in the world. This job enabled me to support myself and build a new life.
Through these tough times, I learned the importance of focusing on the positive and believing that problems are temporary. Life will reward your efforts and open new paths for you. I am deeply grateful to my parents for their love, especially my mom, who had a profound influence on the woman I am today. During my depression, she would remind me, “Pili, there is an internal force inside you. Use it, you can change this.” Her support was invaluable, and sometimes, she was the only person I wanted near me.
This period of my life taught me that generosity brings wealth and the importance of staying positive and trusting that nothing is permanent.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I have had a wonderful career and chose the perfect field without even knowing it. Looking back, I realize it was because I was already following my intuition and trusting that life would place me in the right spot.
Like many young people, I didn’t know what to study in college. At that time, our financial situation was tough, but I visited an expensive university to explore different degrees. There, I spoke with someone who said, “You are a people person, and we just opened a program focused on Human Resources.” I didn’t know what HR was, but he explained that it involved interviewing, training, and hiring new employees. My people skills made it a perfect fit, and I thought, “That sounds like something I can do.” So, I applied and was accepted to Anahuac University in Mexico City. With great effort, my parents managed to pay for the first two years.
I was never a top student, but I managed to stay in college for those two years. One day, my parents told me they could no longer afford the tuition, and I had to find another solution. I was saddened and concerned, so I quit college for a few months and got a job as a receptionist at a hiring company.
One day, a friend suggested we write a letter to the new Director of Finance at the university, Father Vela. She said people think Father Vela is generous and has helped others get scholarships. I doubted my chances due to my grades, but my friend insisted. She helped me write the letter, and we prayed, saying, “Dear God, please take this letter to the person who will help Pilar finish her degree.” We touched the letter together, and she delivered it to Father Vela.
A few days later, he called me and said, “No one should stop their studies due to financial difficulties. I will give you a 100% scholarship, and you will work at the school with one of the most influential people in my life, Ma Elena Madrazo.” She helped me finish college, and we became friends. After my graduation, I got my first job, moved to Puerto Vallarta, and began an amazing career in Human Resources in luxury hotels. My life changed completely.
I am deeply grateful to those who supported me during that time. A few years ago, I reconnected with Father Vela to thank him again for his help. He said he was proud of me and my accomplishments. He is always in my thoughts, and I always wish him well.
Energy is everything, and when you open yourself and pray or meditate from the heart, miracles happen.
