We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Pierra Heard a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Pierra, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Millennial & Mommy•ing was started all because I took a risk even while finding out I was pregnant. The day I graduated with my undergraduate degree was the day I found out that I was expecting. I’d already accepting a job in another state, I planned to move immediately after graduation and suddenly it seemed my plan was going to have to stop. Everyone expected for all of my plans to stop and for a second I did as well. After going through some prenatal depression I quickly realized I couldn’t give up everything I worked so hard for. I made the decision to keep going. Take the job, complete the move and keep building my career. I started to share my journey while doing so and many women started to gravitate towards it. We started a group chat for moms who could relate. Working hard in corporate or in school or even starting businesses. We got too large for group me so someone recommended a Facebook group. Quickly we grew from 10 to hundreds and now thousands of women choosing to accomplish their goals.
Pierra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Millennial & Mommying is a social platform that inspires moms to keep going after their goals. Push them to start the business, get the degree, better their social life. Whatever it is for them to feel like they are thriving as an individual first.
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
I love to talk about one of our moderators. She originally was ready to leave Millennial & Mommying. Imposter syndrome snuck in and she thought the space wasn’t for her. She contacted me and said so many women are doing amazing things and she didn’t fit the “caliber”. Not sure what she meant I asked her to stick around and just be motivated. That’s what she did. She’s now on our team, she’s made more money so much so that she was removed from government assistance. She has moved states and she’s so happy. She created a group of sisterhood and took advantage of the connections and she’s literally the definition of a Millennial Mom now.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Being my authentic and genuine self speaks for itself I feel like and people know what’s BS and what’s not. So I think women became curious by seeing me just live my life and be transparent. I always say this is what has worked for me. Doesn’t mean it’s Bible or will be the same for you. Take or leave anything I have to say or offer.
