Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Pierce Mackey. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Pierce, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
My defining moment was more of a period of time. It seems that as you get older, a moment can be comprised of a page in the story of life. In one of my pages, it was 3 years. In the start of November 2019, my life as I had know it, came to a screeching halt. I was severely injured do to fending of an attacker on my mother. This left me with ten herniated discs in my back and sever nerve damage on the left side of my body. At the same time, Covid had just started hitting hard and the restaurant I was running, was shut down. The properties I was helping manage were moved to a management company, all while my parents decided to get separated. So as you can imagine , being injured, loosing all forms of work, my daughter being taken out of school and put in lousy online classes, the unknowns of society, the world weighing on my shoulders, and all savings swiftly vanishing, can put a lot of things into perspective. And though it may sound as a woe is me moment, I look back and bless every passing as a deep teaching and insight, for the meaning and direction I decided to take.
The growth and passion that transpired form all these events, seem to be the necessary flame to light the fuse to start one of my long time goals. Ive been a healer, mentor, traveler , I had seen and experienced so much but felt I never had the belief in myself to just do it. That it ,was the thing that finally bubbled up, this was my chance! I decided to set aside all the insecurities and just find myself again. I believe through all the chaos came allowance. The allowance to receive love, wealth and happiness. Now mind you when I said a page, this was three years of picking myself back up, learning again to be a great father, husband and son, while also being a provider of love and compassion to the women around me, and especially myself. I was able to create successful businesses as well as start my own podcast, something I had been dreaming of for the past 10 years. The WannaBguru podcast. Set with the simple intention to show others that there are many people in the world that are making a difference for the better and genuinely care about you the reader. This lead to dreams coming true and a hope! Part of that hope is that I can convey, through the darkest of hours, can blossom the most beautiful of inspirations!
Pierce, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
From a very young age I have always wanted to help people. After trying to start my own healing practice and failing, I found myself amiss, trying all kinds of fields and being successful. I always asked myself, why is it Im good at the things I don’t particularly want too be my career, but, these are the things I make money at? This is when I brought my passion for meeting new people and learning while helping on a large scale, a singular force. Podcasting with a clear intention has helped me both heal, learn, and show others that there are hundreds of thousands of people striving to make a positive difference for everyone.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Persistence. With any job I have been successful at, I would say the driver to that point, was persistence. Of coarse if you absolutely enjoy (it) or are very good at (it), will help. But i’ve been surpassed by others in many fields do to their drive and persistence. I believe that persistence can become an art form just like walking. People think that walking is just a natural form of falling, until you take awareness of it. Then you start to understand the geometry of walking, it starts to become so much more. When you start to form the mental art of Persistence , you will see massive gains in whatever path you choose in life.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Throughout most of my life whether it was being wired from my parents or society, grinding until you achieved the status quo was part of living in San Diego California. To start, both sides of my family tree came from broken homes, some, practically being on the street, so I can understand why both my parents worked their ass off to create a secure home. But you also start to understand that from that strife, comes a lot of insecurities. These were also passed down. Success is defined by your meaning alone, not through the eyes of society or your parents. Therefore, it took me many years to redefine that for myself, through failure and achievements, unlearning what success means and defining it for myself, was a huge lesson.
