Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Pia Sierra & Carolina Cardona Studio TNG. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Pia & Carolina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
While attending school to get our master’s degree in Interior Architecture, we had the opportunity to collaborate for two design projects and won several awards. This is when we realized how great we work together and how our different styles and approaches to design actually blend perfectly. Then, one night, after working on an assignment, we starting thinking how would it be if we actually had our own design studio.
This is how Studio TNG was born.
Over school assignments, sleepless nights, wine, and laughs.
We sat one night together and went through possible names, color palette, what our values would be, our design approach and who our ideal client would be.
We knew that what we wanted to create had to be something personal and special, something different to what is currently in the market.
What started as a school project and a ‘crazy’ idea ended up as a business opportunity.
Now, we are proudly celebrating our two-year anniversary as Studio TNG.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Studio TNG is an Interior Design Studio based in Miami, FL specializing in Residential Design.
Our mission is to evoke a sense of place through authentic interiors that showcase your identity.
We offer several services, such as Interior Design + Styling, where we guide our clients to achieve the look and space they desire with the use of mood boards, drawings, material and furniture selections, and 3D visualizations.
Whether it’s a full home renovation or new construction, we strive to guide our clients along each step of the design process in order to curate detail-oriented spaces that work with their lifestyles, needs, and wants. We work with our clients throughout the whole process to ensure we are designing a space that reflects them.
One of the things that set us apart separate from our mission is the way we aim to connect with our clients.
We believe communication is key to a successful project. We want to be as transparent as possible with our clients in regards to our services, our design fees, our design solutions, and the project timeline. Communication also helps us build good relationships and connect with our current and future clients, our vendors which we work closely with, and all the key people in making a design successful.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
We think one of the things that helped us build our reputation within our industry was definitely going to different events and being part of interior design associations. We are lucky that within our industry there are a lot of associations we can become part of, and we both did. We started doing this since we were in school working on our master degrees, and ended up being part of the board for the International Interior Design Association of South Florida. This helped us meet the right people we work with or one day will work with. They saw how hard we work and put our faces out there.
To all Interior Designers that would like to start branching out and do your own thing, believe us when we say, being part of associations bring a lot of benefits towards your brand!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
We think nothing shows our resilience more than starting a business during a global pandemic. However, we think the pandemic actually made people start their own business or think twice about what they really wanted to do. It pushed us to do something different and redirect our lives.
We did not know what we were getting ourselves into. Even though we were both in the design industry before we started Studio TNG, we were not in the administrative side.
How were we going to get clients when we cannot even be in contact with people?
This definitely made us become more creative when we tried to reach out to our first client. By using a lot of social media, offering e-services so we don’t have to be in direct contact with clients, and going to design events wearing masks, we were able to create a platform.
This definitely was one of the biggest challenges we had to face since day 1.
