We were lucky to catch up with Phyllis Harvey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Phyllis, appreciate you joining us today. Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
My practice in Lone Tree Colorado, Tri Resonance, is referred to as “Alternative Healing”. I offer Reiki, Vibrational Sound Therapy, Yoga Nidra which is a type of guided meditation, and sound immersion experiences. I offer private, semi private and group sessions. I have a diverse group of clients who have many different reasons for seeking out the services that I provide. This work truly fills my heart and drives my passion to help others. Currently my practice is part time as I still have my “day” job until I have enough clients to retire and just do my practice. I love and am excited for the opportunity to share one of the most heart warming stories that includes one of my client’s journey and success story. For privacy sake I won’t use her real name or any identifying information about her. For this article we will call her Dana. In order to help explain I’ll need to give you some context.
I met Dana in 2011 at a community meeting for a non-profit that does suicide prevention work. She had recently lost her teen son to suicide. As a mother of a son I felt an immediate connection to her and wanted to do everything I could to help her. She came to the meeting because she wanted to do something to help make sure no other parents had to go through what she was going through. We spent many years working together to prevent suicide in our communities. Dana still does this work full time. My work with suicide prevention has changed quite a bit in that I don’t do it directly as a part of my “day” job, however the services I provide as a part of Tri Resonance are complimentary to mental health treatment. I have many clients who struggle with PTSD, anxiety, depression, chronic stress, sleep and focus issues so I feel I am now helping in a different but just as important way.
Fast forward, Dana called me last April about something unrelated and then asked me about my business. She decided that she wanted to try a Vibrational Sound Therapy (VST) session to just see what it was and support my small business. She told me about her physical struggles. She came to the studio and was very surprised at how much she loved VST. She shared that she initially had no intent on continuing with sessions but she was convinced this was something she needed to continue doing.
So what is heart warming about all of this? The answer is what happened in the next 10 months. Dana’s physical struggles were because she had a back surgery several years ago that turned into several more surgeries, severe nerve damage, a dropped foot and a chronic pain disorder that initially left her almost completely immobile. She has worked incredibly hard at trying to regain strength, movement, pain management and flexibility by initially doing acupuncture, physical therapy and a very specific type of therapeutic massage. All of which have helped her make incredible progress. However, after her first Vibrational Sound Therapy session she felt such a difference in her leg that has the dropped foot, mobility and overall how good her body and mind felt, that she decided to give up acupuncture and do Vibrational Sound Therapy (VST) instead. She still does the therapeutic massage and PT. She comes twice a month for VST with me, rotating weeks with the massage therapy. We are both so thrilled to share that she is sleeping better, her mind is clearer. The best part is that her mobility is so good now that she is playing golf, even playing multiple times in a week at times. Mind you she transitioned from a walker, to a cane and now to today where she walks completely unassisted and again she is playing golf! It always feels so good to help a friend who has lost so much. What is so incredibly heart warming to me is that she is now able to get back to a life where she can do what she loves outdoors, is able to make time for self care and continue to improve all the time. I love seeing how well she is walking and to know that VST plays a very important part is so amazing!
Please know that VST does not cure anything and I am not saying that everyone will have the same success as Dana, everyone’s experience will be different. However, this truly warms my heart and I hope knowing the full context of her story warms yours. It’s amazing!
We want to leave you with resources because that is the responsible thing to do when talking about suicide prevention and mental health.
If you or someone you know is struggling with suicide or any type of mental health challenge please know there is hope and help.
You or they can call Colorado Crisis Services to talk with someone who can offer resources and help 1-844-493-8255. There doesn’t have to be a crisis to call! They also offer peer support.
What I offer is not mental health treatment, but they are complementary modalities and can be done at the same time you are receiving mental health care. If you are interested in discussing please reach out [email protected]

Phyllis, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My company name is Tri Resonance. How I describe what I offer is Alternative Healing and Empowered Wellness. My studio is in Lone Tree Colorado. I am a certified Sound and Energy practitioner. I offer Reiki, Vibrational Sound Therapy, Yoga Nidra which is a type of guided meditation, and sound immersion experiences – or what some people call sound baths. I offer private, semi private and group sessions. I have a diverse group of clients who have many different reasons for seeking out the services that I provide. I have many clients who struggle with PTSD, anxiety, depression, chronic stress, sleep and focus issues. It is important for us to work together as a team. I have many clients who have experienced much success in working with me. One client recently said, “ Phyllis understands trauma. She creates a true sanctuary and space to heal. In addition to her artistry in creating meditative sounds, she enables her clients to set boundaries and in effect to grow by leaps and bounds.”
This work truly fills my heart and drives my passion to help others. It has always been my passion to give back and help those in our community. As a Colorado native, I am blessed with a beautiful family, friends and amazing career. Yet, like many, I have also experienced ups and downs. I began having trouble focusing and experiencing high levels of stress about 5-6 years ago. I knew I needed to do something different to take back my life. I dabbled in mindfulness which helped a lot, but I was still having some difficulties. Meditation, music and sound therapy helped a lot and led me to the decision to blend my passions of helping others and the modalities I have trained in to start my business. I completed my training and certification in Vibrational Sound Therapy through the Vibrational Sound Association (VSA). I completed a Sonic Mastery training program focusing on sound baths and energy healing. I have completed both Reiki I and II training with Healing Hands Reiki of Boulder, CO and will complete my Reiki Master on May 6, 2022. I received my Yoga Nidra Facilitator Certification from Scott Moore Yoga. My Mindfulness Coaching training is through Unified Mindfulness. I have an Associates of Applied Science degree from Arapahoe Community College. I also have training in peer support, and trauma informed care. I have extensive training in suicide prevention, along with other mental health training. I am not a licensed mental health clinician and do not offer mental health services. I am dedicated to continuing my training and education. It is important that I create a sacred and caring space and deeply relaxing experience for all I am blessed to work with.
Currently my practice is part time, evenings and Saturdays, as I still have my “day” job until I have enough clients to retire and just do my practice. My day job is with a local law enforcement agency where I have worked for almost 32 years and had the opportunity to receive extensive training that fits with what I offer in my business such as suicide awareness/prevention and intervention, trauma informed care, and peer support. Again, I am not a mental health clinician, and am very aware of those boundaries. I make sure that I know who I can refer clients to should they need something more than what I am offering. I am deeply empathic and I feel these types of trainings and my work in law enforcement are what sets me a part from other practitioners.
A lot of people are surprised that someone in my day job field is involved with alternative healing. Yin Yang is what I say! However now days a lot of law enforcement and military are very “wellness” focused and are exploring alternative modalities.
I feel honored to be called to this work and to share it with others.
Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
In order to succeed as a Sound and Energy Practitioner, other than training and knowledge, I feel it is imperative that I stay client focused. It’s easy for businesses to focus heavily on making money. Yes I need to be able to meet my financial obligations, however the most important obligation I have is to listen to, work with and help my clients succeed in meeting their goals. In my practice people come in for a lot of reasons, some of which are deep relaxation, stress relief, to learn how to improve their focus and get better sleep. All of which I take very seriously and work hard to help them with. My motto is You Are Worth It!

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Absolutely. One, I believe everything happens for a reason. I also believe that we all have gifts that take time to develop. I am grateful for all of the blessings in my life and am confident that everything I have done and experienced has led me to where I am today and is why I am on the path I am on. I also believe it all is what is helping me to succeed.
