Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Phylicia Spann. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Phylicia, thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
In order to be successful you have to do the work. Write down your goals and work toward them everyday and continue to grow. Believe in where you’re going, envision, it and strive. Take risk and push yourself. It will get uncomfortable, but you will never know what life will reward if you don’t try. Get rid of those negative thoughts, fears, and distractions and discipline yourself.

Phylicia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a child I was always super girly. I loved to dress up and play in makeup. However, I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup until high school. When I got to high school, I became more and more intrigued with makeup and began doing research on different products learning how to use them. I would save up pick up new products here and there and practice applying them. I would post my different makeup looks on social media and that began to get attention from my peers. Soon, more and more people were interested in getting their makeup done by me. After high school I enrolled into college for fashion merchandising graduating in 2021. Shortly after graduation, I enrolled in school to become a licensed Esthetician because I realized I didn’t want to sit on my talent. I created a professional website and my business began to grow rapidly before my eyes. I am very passionate about satisfying my clients and making them look and more importantly, feel amazing. I created a professional website and my business began to grow. My clientele and business is continuing to grow every day I couldn’t be more thankful. I’m loving every second it!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
On November 17th 2021, I was a in a car accident involving a 18 wheeler totaling my car. This accident left me with painful burns, abrasions on face, and minor knee and back injuries. The scars left me feeling very insecure and depressed. Being that beauty is such a big part of my life, I always took great care of my skin so this took a toll on my mental. However, I’m still very thankful to have survived such a tragic bad accident. Although I felt very insecure about my facial injuries, I still managed to show up for my clients and preform the best I could for them.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience on social media definitely took time. I would get discouraged some days when I worked really hard trying to perfect my work and got little to no engagement on social media. Over time, I learned you have to be super consistent. You can not be too hard on yourself. Post your work even if it isn’t your best. This allows you and your clients to see and appreciate your growth as an artist. I built my audience on social media by posting everyday using beauty related hash tags. I also attach popular trendy songs to my work to get more engagement. This along with client referrals continues to help grow my business.
