We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Phree Finney-Durham a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Phree thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

Essence of Phreedom came from my name “Phree” and wanting to create something that was a representation of myself, my mission and my creativity.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

The drive behind starting my business came from a need to bring awareness to the harm that was being caused by the products we absorb and inhale into our bodies.

I started researching natural alternative healing methods and creating products after unsuccessfully finding a remedy to heal and care for my grandson’s eczema. The amount of harmful chemicals found in “natural” products on store shelves was alarming.

I knew that I did not want myself or my loved ones to continue to be poisoned unknowingly and started creating alternative products that were vegan and supported their self-care goals.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

Authenticity and the desire to help the people I serve has allowed me to build a strong foundation and real connection with my customers and community. I am genuinely grateful for their support and loyalty and am committed to making sure they are happy with the products they purchase and even happier with the experience they have when shopping with my company.

I want everyone who encounters myself or my team to walk away feeling empowered and supported on their self-care journeys.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.

All of my products are handcrafted by me with healing in mind. I wear/use all of the products I sale for a minimum of two weeks to ensure safe and optimal quality/performance before making them accessible to the public.

I have perfected my craft through trial and error. I value the opinions of those I choose to test my products and am constantly improving and testing new techniques to ensure that I produce the highest quality products possible.

It is a very tedious process but I want to be sure that my products live up to the standards and expectations that I have set for them.
