We caught up with the brilliant and insightful PhotosByZo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
PhotosByZo, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I hope my legacy will be remembered for a long time, I want to go down as one of the best photographers to ever touch a camera. When I’m gone hopefully they say I was quite different from most photographers. A lot of people will remember me from some of my iconic shots of Future & Lil Baby & also being Zaytoven’s official photographer.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Zo , a celebrity photographer based in Nashville, TN. I do a lot of work in the music industry. I’ve been able to work with many well known artist & celebrities around the world. Some artist I’ve been able to work with is Future, Jelly Roll, Key Glock, Glorilla, Lil Baby, Zaytoven & more. When it comes to photography what sets me apart is my editing style & my return time on sending pictures back to my clients.
I’m most proud of never giving up & always staying motivated to through my ups and downs. All days won’t be the same sometimes you gotta make the best out of what you got. Also in order for me to get to where I’m at I have to network with different people to get my face card out there more & having Zaytoven co-sign me helped out a lot too.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I came to building my audience on social media I knew I had to photograph people who has some notoriety or fame. I had only 2,400 followers when I start doing photography. One day I had worked with multi platinum artist future who had posted my picture I took of him on his page. He had 13.7 million followed at that particular time , so that help my engagements on Instagram go up. I now have 9,700 which is just 300 from 10k so that would be a good accomplishment for me. I also have 18.7k followers on TikTok.
A way to gain a stronger social presence for people who are just starting out is connect what you do with things people like. Also make sure your page has a focus point and not just posting anything. For example you shouldn’t have a food channel but also be posting spots , that would lower your views. Also stay creative & figure out ways to go viral.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect in what I do other than getting paid is having the world see your work. There’s nothing like having a picture you took be seen by millions of people. For example I’ve had people use my pics for album covers, social media post, movie sets , parties & many more.
