Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Phoenix Samone . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Phoenix, appreciate you joining us today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
The best thing I’ve done for my clients is get them flowers for their special occasions. A client of mine let me know before hand she’d be getting her nails done for her wedding. I was so honored and excited that she chose me to do her nails for her special day. When she came to sit down I had white flowers sitting in her chair. She later took to social media to rave about how special I made her feel!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Phoenix and I’m a nail tech located in Waldorf, Maryland. I specialize in Gel-X extensions, gel overlays, dry pedicures and gel press ons. I also offer delicious complimentary mocktails during appointments which is why my business name is manicures and mocktails.
I started my nail business when I was 18 making press ons. After awhile I wanted more out of my business. I wanted to service people in person. I took a gel-x class and fell in love. Not only are gel-x a healthier alternative to acrylics, they also look so natural and seamless.
I started out practicing on family and friends. Once I felt I was good enough I began to take clients. At one point I was juggling cosmology school, work, and clients. Now I am a full time nail tech, graduated from beauty school, and rent out my own salon suite!
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Funding a business can be difficult at times because it’s very expensive. When I first started I was really young, a full time college student with no job. The little amount that I made at first would go to shipping cost and supplies. Thankfully I have a very supportive family and friends, that would buy me tons of supplies on holidays and/or my birthday. I’m very thankful for them.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been social media and having a positive and professional attitude. TikTok and Instagram is where I gain most of my clientele from besides word of mouth. I post all types of content like day in the life vlogs or nail tech advice. People really like those types of videos. I’m also just a nice person. I keep things very professional and positive because I want to make my clients as comfortable as possible
