We were lucky to catch up with Phillip Hodge III recently and have shared our conversation below.
Phillip, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My Parents, Phillip Hodge Jr. and Rickenya Hodge, were and are essential to my story and who I am today. My Parents are the epitome of the Disciplinarian, get the mission done and do your absolute best, Parents. From an early age, they instilled values in me that carry to this day whether it is grinding for what I want in life or even my faith in God. I grew up in the church. It was always Church on Wednesday and Sundays. The Values of treating your neighbors the way you wanted to be treated and showing God’s Love through your actions is what I was taught heavily. Through my Career choices and ambitions I took time off of school. They have been very supportive of my career. They’ve gone to a few of my Movie Premiere’s and make sure they let every family friend know what I’ve accomplished. In my younger years, I must admit I did have my anger towards there parenting but without it, I’m not sure where I would be now. I thank God for them.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m an Actor and Model. I started Modeling professionally in 2019 while I spent some time in Louisville,KY. I met with a photographer my cousin linked me up with and I figured out concepts for Photoshoots I wanted to do. I realized that the 1990’s Era of Fashion & Music was my type of vibe so most of my Photoshoots have that same type of vibe. I dipped into Acting the same year. I never really took an interest in being an Actor as a profession because I was dead set on going to school for Communications and being an Sports Media Personality. Through further convincing of my friend and cousin, I gave the Craft of Acting a shot and I would say it’s been the best decision of my life. I love to entertain people and put smiles on there faces & through Acting and Modeling I’ve realized I can do that. I would say what sets me apart is my work ethic. As I said previously my parents instilled that mentality in me so I make sure I put 100% into every I desire to do. I recently just had my first TV Role debut and premiere for TV One’s “ATL Homicide” Season 4 Episode 2. I’ve also just booked Atlanta Fashion Week and will be gracing the runway on October 6th and 7th. Those bookings are two of the biggest I’ve had in each Craft and I feel tremendously blessed for those opportunities and the ones to come.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an Artist is the beautiful internal feeling of knowing that you’re accomplishing the goals you’ve set out for yourself. When you believe in you and you’re accomplishing success that was unimaginable to everyone else, it’s a feeling like none other. It’s not so much about proving others wrong as much as it is about being right about you. When you take risk in life, you’re bound to hit some walls and have failures. It’s really about pushing forward and when your hard work meets faith, there’s nothing in the world that can beat it.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In my journey, I’ve hit many brick walls. There’s been plenty of times where I haven’t booked and busy for awhile & I grew frustrated wanting the next blessing to come about. I’ve had in person auditions that I flubbed lines on, model call auditions that because I wasn’t 6’0 I got shot down upon arrival, recasted midway through a production, and etc. What keeps me going is knowing that Man’s No is God’s Continue pushing or Yes. I’ve had to come to the reality that not everything you go out for, you’re going to book and land. When that hit me, I realized I just have to keep getting better and putting time into my Craft.
