We recently connected with Philinese Kirkwood and have shared our conversation below.
Philinese, appreciate you joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
Lottie is inspired by my grandmother, the matriarch and heart of our family. Affectiously called “litttle lottie” as a child, I have inherited her most valuable characteristics and applied them to the core values of Lottie Productions– strength, nurtoure, responsibility, organization, creativity, and willing to be firm but always fair. Don’t start no stuff, won’t be no stuff.

Philinese, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Philinese Kirkwood – With over 10 years of content production experience, I’ve honed the ability to execute creative concepts for all platforms— providing production approaches and creative solutions, creating budgets, hiring diverse crews, and perfecting the details in support of the whole for unique storytelling. My monthly Tik Tok series speaks for itself in highlighting unrepresented talent that you show know.
Lottie Productions LLC was formed in 2022 with the focus of bringing creative visions to life. Lottie is founded on the idea that creative execution is best when there’s a passion for the brand. That’s why Lottie only works on brands/ clients that we believe in. With the commitment to ensure that 15% of all crew on productions are Black & Brown hires. Diversity is key and we ensure to highlight underrepresented talent.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The most important mission for Lottie Productions is ensuring that our commitment to diversity and bringing opportunity to underrepresented talent is met. We are based on core principles referred to as “lottie logic” including a commitment that 15% of hired crew department leads are Black/ Brown hires.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The most recent pivot was deciding to go from a full time relatively comfortable role at a major streaming company to completely focusing on my own venture, Lottie Productions. During my time there, I had the most professional experience in my department which didn’t allow me to learn or utilize my skills as a producer. It was a constant conflict of expressing innovative ways to expand the departments capabilities, but it wasn’t acknowledged as needed or desired; the department leads were comfortable being stagnant. I’m a firm believer that every work or personal venture is a stepping and learning stone. So my time at this company was the most impactful “stone” as it allowed me to learn about how data/ technology impacts entertainment and ultimately, was pivotal to my decision to launch Lottie.
