Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Phil Scott. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Phil, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Creating and working on my podcast has been wonderfully meaningful to me. I’ve wanted to be a radio talk show host since I was a pre-teen, so brainstorming the idea of doing the podcast early during the pandemic, then having the courage and determination to do it and keep it going through some challenging times has been especially meaningful to me. I enjoy talking to people one on one, learning their backstory, and learning more about their careers, their passions, and what drives, inspires, and motivates them is a fantastic thing for me. It’s a privilege and honor for me to do the podcast.
Phil, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As I’ve stated, I wanted to be a radio talk show host since I was a pre-teen, and I brainstormed the idea of doing the podcast early during the pandemic. The original concept for me doing the podcast was to talk about things that would interest consumers of everyday items like technology (computers, cameras, etc.), cars, etc. The more episodes I did, the more I wanted to start interviewing people about a variety of different subjects.
I enjoy those conversations, and they are informative to listeners and views of the podcast. I’ve interviewed a lot of authors and and other professionals (journalists, actresses, business owners, pilots, etc. – even a race car driver!), and it also evolved that most of my guests have been women. It has turned into a great networking tool for guests, as well – another benefit I didn’t realize would happen. We talk about what drives them, what inspires them, etc., which not only entertains and inform listeners, but hopefully inspires them to take a chance to chase their dreams, or even even try something new in some cases. All of that, in turn, inspired me to change the title from “Consumers, Cars, Tech Talk and More With Phil Scott” to “The Total Podcast! With Phil Scott.”
I’m proud of the fact that my guests are comfortable with my interviews, and that are conversations are friendly and relaxed. Doing “Gotcha” or tabloid interviews are of no interest to me. I want my guests to feel like they had a great time, and want to come back in the future.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The missions/goals of my creative journey are to do something I really love doing – to me, that makes work more fulfilling and worthwhile; to be very good at it, make it enjoyable and interesting for a large number of people, and to hopefully make a sustainable living from doing what I love. Other benefits have been that it has allowed people to connect and network, and allowed me to network and connect with others as well.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being a podcast host isn’t easy, but I really enjoy interviewing people, hearing their stories, and sharing them with the audience. It’s my goal that listeners and viewers of the podcast will enjoy it all as well, and keep listening to the podcast. If listeners/viewers discover something new that interests them on the podcast, that’s even better! I’ve learned a lot of important information interviewing guests (and even reviewing and discussing various products and subjects on the podcast), which is wonderful!
