We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Phil Mealer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Phil below.
Phil, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I had a friend a couple of years back that asked “ Are you ever in Ohio?” I thought to myself ya Occasionally. And then thought hey that’s a good name for my account.
Phil, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I guess to sum up my brand succinctly. I take photos both for fun and commission. I primarily do residential architecture but do fine art as well. I think what sets me apart is that I take something very simple like a home and capture it’s beauty. I’m very proud of being able to show people the beauty in the every day things. I appreciate all the love shown to me over the years but commissioned work is my absolute favorite.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
For years on this the Instagram platform I didn’t really post a theme. Once I started to post with the house portrait theme I started to have slow and steady progress. Then Covid happened and I think it was just something on everyone’s minds. We were all pretty much stuck at home so I think that was what is on everyone’s mind. If I have any advice on how to grow your audience it’s patience and persistence. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I honestly think consistent quality and storytelling really helps on social media. People enjoy seeing what catches my eye and stick around for all the other types of photos I take.
