We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Phil Better a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Phil, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job?
One of the biggest lessons I learned from my previous career as a Fraud Analyst at a major financial institution came on a particularly hectic day. A data breach at another bank had left customers panicking about the safety of their personal information, and we were flooded with calls about fraudulent credit card applications.
Amid the chaos, I received a call from an elderly lady, clearly distressed. She had been contacted by the other institution about the breach and was advised to secure her information with her other banks. At 80 years old, she was not only worried about her finances but also mourning the recent loss of her husband. The agent from the other bank had been rude and curt, leaving her feeling even more vulnerable.
As she spoke, her voice trembled. “They told me my information might be at risk. I don’t know what to do. I can’t handle this right now,” she said, her words punctuated by sobs.
Understanding her anxiety, I knew this call needed more than just procedural answers. “I’m so sorry you’re going through this,” I replied gently. “Let’s take this step by step. I’m here to help you.”
What started as a routine call turned into a compassionate conversation. I guided her through the necessary steps, making sure she felt secure and supported. By the end of our conversation, she was calmer and grateful, reassured that her information was safe.
This experience taught me a crucial lesson: Always prioritize helping others solve their issues first. Whether dealing with customers or clients, offering support and empathy builds trust and genuine connections. This approach has shaped every interaction I’ve had since, ensuring that I focus on helping others before promoting my products or services.

Phil, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who may be unaware, let me introduce myself: I am Phil Better, The Podcast Mogul. I specialize in helping Entrepreneurs in the Personal Financial Education and Personal Development niches, as well as independent podcasters, Launch, Grow, and Monetize their podcasts, allowing them to focus on growing their businesses.
My decade-plus experience in the podcast industry started with the launch of “The Phil Better Show,” and Through countless trials and errors, I’ve learned invaluable lessons about podcasting success and failure.
In late 2020, I launched the award-winning podcast “Invest In Yourself: The Digital Entrepreneur Podcast,” which quickly garnered acclaim and won the Best Business Podcast award from the Snobbies, an independent podcast award ceremony. Despite having only a few episodes, the podcast’s success opened new doors for me.
One of those doors led to my first major client, Lloyd Ross, The Millionaire Money Mentor. I helped him launch his 7-figure podcast, “Money Grows on Trees: The Podcast,” which remains a top-rated show in the Investing, Business, and Education categories globally.
Since then, through my agency “Podcast Launch Agency,” I have assisted hundreds of entrepreneurs in launching their podcasts. I continually test, experiment, and innovate to find more efficient ways to run, monetize, and grow podcasts, helping more people achieve their dreams of financial freedom.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
This may seem like a biased opinion, given my role and industry, but the truth is that being a guest on podcasts has been my best source of clients.
Whenever I appear as a guest on a podcast, I notice a significant increase in traffic to my own podcasts and an uptick in calls about launching new podcasts within a few weeks of the episode going live.
The magic lies in the intimacy of podcasting. As a guest, you have a unique opportunity to connect directly with listeners, sharing your expertise, insights, and business practices. Listeners get a firsthand sense of how you work, what you know, and how you conduct business. This personal connection fosters trust and interest, making them more likely to reach out.
Moreover, podcast episodes remain online indefinitely, providing a lasting resource that continues to attract new listeners and potential clients. You can also repurpose the content for social media, showcasing your knowledge and reinforcing your brand’s authority to your audience.
In summary, being a guest on podcasts not only enhances client acquisition but also boosts your visibility and provides evergreen content to support your marketing efforts.

How’d you meet your business partner?
It was an ordinary day in January 2021 when the story of how I met my co-founder of Podcast Launch Agency began. A young, inexperienced podcaster named Chris Cownden reached out, asking if I would be a guest on his unnamed podcast.
I eagerly agreed, knowing I could offer him some valuable insights. Even before the interview, I shared crucial advice that would save him hours: “Get a calendar scheduler like Tidycal or Calendly. It’ll make you seem more professional to bigger guests.”
From our first call, I recognized his dedication and drive. The way he asked questions pulled out all my secrets about podcasting. How he was able to keep me interested in his questions so I would provide even more profound answers.
He was a determined individual who would succeed in whatever he pursued. As his mentor in podcasting and life, I watched him leverage his podcast to land opportunities at AppSumo, the #1 marketplace for entrepreneurs, and Capsho, the leading AI podcasting content creation app.
Our journey together led to co-founding the Podcast Launch Agency. To this day, he thanks me for saying yes to being a guest on his podcast, but in reality, I owe him my gratitude. His relentless drive has inspired me and helped shape who I am today.
