We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Phelize Bristol a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Phelize, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I wasn’t happy with the direction of my business. I heard about the 12 Week Year and read the book in two days! After reading this book, I decided to initiate a significant shift in my own business.
I began with a deep dive into market research. I looked to understand my target audience by talking to them about their goals, challenges, and how my services could address their needs. This insights I gained would later shape the direction of my business.
Now that I had a clearer understanding of my audience, I had to take actionable steps. First, I created a Google spreadsheet outlining my 12 Week Year plan. In this document, I wrote out my goals for the “year” and further broke them down into five micro goals to be executed either daily or weekly for each month.
I committed to a mindset of consistency and didn’t let myself make excuses. In only three weeks, I found myself achieving small wins daily, bringing me closer to my overarching goals.
In those few weeks, I secured two clients for my new service, which made me believe that my daily tasks were working! In that time, I received more inquiries than I did over the past two months. My social media platforms were growing, and I was receiving more views than I was last year!
Witnessing the transformation in real time was amazing! What had started as an idea to revamp my business had evolved into a well executed plan and created real results. The 12 Week Year had become more than a strategy – it was what lead me to real and transformative change that I’m truly grateful for.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my social media audience, I focused on understanding my clients and creating a strong connection with them. Market research was crucial – I looked into what my clients liked, identified the platforms they used, and asked about their struggles.
Choosing the right social media platforms is essential. I made sure to be where my clients are (Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok). Consistency is key! I made sure to establish a content calendar and batched my content ahead of time to keep me consistent in posting on all different social media platforms. If you’re just starting, stick to one platform first. Don’t spread yourself too thin!
Engagement is the most important part of any social media success. I make it a point to interact with my target audience daily. Building relationships is crucial, you have to talk to them before you can make a sale.
Always show your personality, you’re not a robot! A personal brand is a game-changer and will make you stick out from the competition. People connect with authenticity, so I let my personality shine through my content. This not only builds a genuine connection but also distinguishes me as relatable and trustworthy to my audience.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A significant lesson I had to unlearn was letting fear hold me back from pursuing my dreams. The backstory to this realization goes deep into overcoming the fear of being seen and acknowledging that I had a dream life and goals waiting to be achieved.
Initially, fear acted as a barrier, preventing me from taking steps towards what I truly wanted. I had to consciously work on my mindset and believe in myself to break free from this. That involved overcoming the fear of being seen, both personally and professionally.
Recognizing that I had a dream life and goals was a pivotal moment. I realized that to turn these dreams into reality, I needed to challenge and reshape my mindset. This meant acknowledging my aspirations, building confidence in my abilities, and taking the plunge to start a business.
The journey to unlearn this lesson was a process of self-discovery and empowerment. It required stepping out of my comfort zone, embracing vulnerability, and understanding that the fear holding me back was just a hurdle I could overcome. As I worked on my mindset and belief in myself, I eventually broke down the barriers that were keeping me from pursuing what I truly wanted in life.
