Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to PHAZE GAWD. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, PHAZE thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made (either in terms of time or money)? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
The best investment I’ve made in my career was building and maintaining relationships with people in and outside the industry. Just being able to have a good network of people to contact is crucial even if nothing happens off the initial meet-up; there have been so many times where down the road, a reconnection occurs as an opportunity just by maintaining a positive rapport. I’m a firm believer that there is nothing more valuable than earning someone’s trust, especially in the business of creative entrepreneurship.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, Having Grown up in a household with a musician as a father, and had a passion for writing that would quickly develop into a budding music career. My music is heavily influenced by life experiences, current events, and interests in multiple forms of entertainment and creative outlets such as anime and live performances. Beyond national recording artist and music producer, I’m also an actor, film/video director and producer, event planner, and host of my podcast MartTalkCLT.
Voted best Rapper in Charlotte(Queen City Nerve ‘Best In the Nest 2022’) I pride myself on putting on the best high-energy performances and delivering a variety of quality music that unifies the people in the community and promotes change as well as provides platforms to spotlight for other budding artists by way of free to perform event series and or showcases with artist payout to empower the artist to follow suit and chase their dreams.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me personally, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is when you see the audience make the connection to the art. When someone sends a message telling me their favorite song of mine or after a performance when I’m drenched in sweat and audience members still want to hug and take pictures while explaining how my performance was the best show they’ve seen. It puts a lot into perspective and fuels that drive to do more and scale up so more people can have that connection and relate.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I’ve been reading The Essence of The Bhagavad Gita which has completely changed my perspective on how life happens and how we have way more control over ourselves than we give credit and how a lot of the extra frills in life are more distractions that lead to more suffering than a practical way of life. It gets deep even beyond just religious text but full-on applicable life lessons that have impacted my thought process to this day. I’m glad my dad gifted it to me.
