We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Phaedra Janaye. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Phaedra below.
Hi Phaedra , thanks for joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents did right by instilling in me to keep God first in any and EVERYTHING, because without Him NOTHING is possible. That you don’t have to always read the Bible but prayer is key. “Don’t throw all your eggs into one batch”, said by dad, meaning to take your time and make the best decision. You always got to time to do what you want and what you need to do in order to be happy.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
For the people who haven’t been acquainted with the Easy, Breezy, Beautiful Black Girl, I am Phaedra Janaye. I’m a model. From stepping outside the box to simplicity, I’m freelanced in my work. I don’t settle for less than and go beyond, not for “perfection” but what I feel is compatible in that moment. “A picture is worth a thousand words”, and a true creative can see when great efforts is displayed. What I’m most proud of is my vision for detail and versatility.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is seeing the outcome of my visuals and seeing the evolution of improvement. Seeing every “mission” for a shoot accomplished when I feel as though the assignment has been complete. Because there has been times, where I’d say and push to go further. Satisfaction is when I look at the raw pictures before the edits and get excited knowing that it’s going to be amazing. Because I think of the extreme and say “yep this is what’s next to come”. With being a creative, your mind runs forward with excitement.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The first thing that came to mind with this question was the song “Ordinary People” by John Legend. Allow people to be who they in their happiest state, purest form. Especially if it’s positive. Support can be given in so many ways and hopefully however you show support is appreciated. From sharing your perspective or feelings about a person’s work and what you like about it to sharing and tagging their posts, showing up to events, and so forth.
