We were lucky to catch up with Petey Mac recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Petey, thanks for joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
In 2024, I felt a strong pull to go fully independent with my business rather than continue contracting for larger PR firms. At the time, I didn’t have enough clients to cover more than a month of living expenses, but deep down, I knew it was the next step I needed to take—and I had a peace about it.
I took the leap and trusted God. Within one month, he had blessed me with enough clients to be financially sustainable, and the growth since then beyond what I ever imagined. I feel truly blessed.

Petey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I run my company, PGM PR, which represents the initials of my full name — Peter Gabriel McGuire. I work with clients across the music industry (artists, entrepreneurs, festivals, and events), as well as those in hospitality and the arts.
I’m passionate about helping clients craft and share compelling stories that not only spotlight their work, but also create meaningful connections and collaborations that deliver real impact.
I specialize in developing captivating, personalized pitches that capture each client’s vision, highlight what makes them unique, and establish why they deserve to be featured. Over the years, I’ve helped clients earn coverage in outlets like Forbes, Billboard, Rolling Stone, and Uproxx, often helping their stories cross over into wider cultural conversations.
At the core, I’m driven by a love for storytelling — using my skills to help others grow their careers, expand their reach, and make their mark on a global scale.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest lessons I learned early on is that people don’t automatically care about what you’re pitching — even if the client or brand is well-known.
Journalists get flooded with pitches every day, and what they really value is a story that’s relevant to their beat and genuinely meaningful.
That realization pushed me to level up — to write sharper subject lines, personalize every pitch, identify the most compelling angles, and dig deeper to find the right journalists and outlets for each story. That focus has since led to features in outlets like Forbes, Rolling Stone, Entrepreneur, Billboard, and more.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Providing value. If you can consistently deliver more value than your competitors, word of mouth will spread and your business will continue to grow!
