We recently connected with Peter Porr and have shared our conversation below.
Peter, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Is your team able to work remotely? If so, how have you made it work? What, if any, have been the pitfalls? What have been the non-obvious benefits?
At Cravo, we pay and reward our collaborators on output, not time spent sitting at our chairs. We rather have people focus on their work, get it done at their pace and desired time, and go enjoy their lives than have them at our office, putting mediocre effort, and gathering around the water cooler.
Fixed pay for a marketing person yields mediocracy and inefficiency. Pay per output will guarantee efficiency and quality since everybody is evaluated on project results and rewarded on such, rather than being awarded based on likeness and friendship, which is common in regular working environments.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Cravo Marketing started because we wanted to provide world-class marketing to smaller companies. Kierstie Payge, Cravo’s co-founder, and I were provided for by families with small businesses, so we know how important they are.
After working for large companies, we decided to start Cravo to provide all-encompassing marketing services at a great value. Our core services of web and graphic design, SEO, email marketing, and paid ads cover most needs and have been yielding great results for our clients. We are proud to say that every one of our clients has expanded services with us. We believe that what sets us apart is creating that connection with our clientele, not just wanting to sell a service to them.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Results have built our reputation.
We landed our first client on the first week we started the business. We re-built their website, and started SEO efforts and paid ads campaigns. The results were great, and we helped their business grow exponentially.
Turns out, they have great connections, and the word started spreading around. Their friends wanted to know more about what we provided and in no time we landed more clients. The snowball kept rolling and word-of-mouth became a great lead generator for us due to the success we are able to have with all of our clients.
Any advice for managing a team?
The best way to manage a team and keep morale up is to set expectations and be clear in your communication. When people know what you want from them, and you keep honest and frequent communication with them, no surprises arise and you get the results you want.
Then, properly rewarding people for great work becomes essential to cultivate a culture of excellency.
