We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Peter O’Keefe a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Peter, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
When it comes to the support of my friends and family I couldn’t ask for better people in my life. They always go above and beyond and I’m truly grateful for them. The fact that they support me without me having to ask is truly amazing. I love how they help elevate me and make sure I put my all into my content. Whether it’s them making suggestions, putting me onto new information or simply sharing my content. Nothing goes unnoticed and I’m very grateful to have such an incredible support system.
I feel nothing is inappropriate when asking for support when it comes to your business. Now, there is a difference between asking and begging. If you feel like you’re “begging” for support then I say fall back. People who genuinely care about you and your business will support you no matter what. Also, you shouldn’t have to keep asking. I feel like once or twice is good enough.

Peter, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a wardrobe stylist and a content creator of food and fashion. I’ve been styling for the last 4 years and creating content for the past two years. I get so much joy in what I do. Whether it’s styling or doing my videos for my content it’s an avenue that allows me to be my authentic self. I get to show the world a side of me beyond my pics on my social media. Being able to do my voiceovers or my GRWM (get ready with me) allows my personality to shine and my followers can get to know me a little better.
My content creating consists of fashion (GRWM, Hauls, New Trends) and Food reviews. This was something that kind of “just Happened” Once I did my first food review, I got so much great feedback from my followers. This made me want tot to continue to do them. My voiceover was so entertaining and engaging that caught my followers’ attention and had them wanting me to do more.
My personality is what sets me apart. Some would say over the top. People love that about me. My quick comeback and one liner. I’m a great time and people love being around me because it’s always a vibe. Not to mention I’m a genuine, caring person. People love that about me too and that helps with building relationships with clients.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Consistency is a major aspect of how I built my audience on social media. I’ve seen my followers go from less than a thousand followers to attracting over a thousand followers. By me being consistent with my content it allowed more people to become familiar with me and my brand. It also allowed me to get new clientele.
I did take an unintended “hiatus” if you will and that has slowed my business and audience. I believe in “out of sight, out of mind” with me not being active on social media then coming back I must remain relevant so I can continue to grow my brand and audience.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being creative is that I can be my authentic self. There are no rules when it comes to me and my brand. I can do as I please and not have to worry about being micromanaged or having too necessarily please anyone.
