We recently connected with Peter Jericho (stage name) and have shared our conversation below.
Peter, appreciate you joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
i am a First generation African American who has lived both on the continent of African and North America. Choosing to be a Musical artist isnt a very popular career choice within my culture. but i believe it is just as important as any other path when it comes to pushing the culture forward, connecting people and being informative about our similarities and differences. the things that help us all appreciate each other. i want my legacy to show that i am indeed one of those who chose to use my talents to bridge gaps. brought people together from several different cultures to speak the same language. which is love through song.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My Parents are Cameroonian immigrants who came to the states in the 70s to further their education. and in the midst of their stay i was born in Aurora Illinois. we later on moved back to Cameroon, Central Africa, where i found my love for music within the church grounds with my parents also being a major part of the choir. As i grew older my love for music developed as well. it was inevitable that i too completely tune in to the gifts i clearly had for performing arts and i decided to give it a go. since then i was composed melodies, written lyrics and released music for myself and others. i am most proud that i didnt give up on something i developed such a strong passion for and i have since seen success within that music industry and built countless relationships with people of all walks in life.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Having spent a chunk of my life in a 3rd world nation, there is so much i have seen in my home country that needs development, including within the creative arts field. There are infastructures that need to be put in place for the growth of the arts, granting some of the very talented individuals within those spaces to thrive and have a voice outside of their hometowns. My goal is to assist in exposing their Gifts, helping in telling their story, and introducing them to a formula or blueprint to success. but if nothing else being a pioneer to give them hope that we can come from where we come from and thrive in absolutely anything we put our minds to
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson i had to learn and i am still unpacking is less work is necessary just because you are talented or gifted. i had to realize that it takes lots of work, networking and commitment to not only get into the door but also stay in the building. one of my first shows i did was at the very beginning of my musical journey in Vancouver Canada and it was me opening up for some major artists infront of a massive crowd of over 10 thousand people. I believe that was the beginning of my rise to the top and it was one hell of a start. The journey definitely wasnt smooth sailing from there on out. i have had some good days and a lot of bad ones as well. its kept me humble and knowing that in an ever growing and changing industry you have to be ready for countless obstacles that would challenge your reason for continuing to dream
