We were lucky to catch up with Peter Deeley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Peter, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
We started A well Run Life in 2014 as a health and wellness company. We spent time in those days talking to people 1 to 1 about their health. Here is a video from those early days: https://youtu.be/AA1RMb8XztY
We then started to do farm-to-table events on a property we called Grace Farms. Those events were very well-loved by our community and featured amazing local chefs and farmers. You can see a video of one of those experiences here: https://youtu.be/eOig5haFz3k
We started making handmade charms to raise money to buy land to give Grace Farms a permanent home. We lost our lease to the property in the first year of the pandemic. We continue to make these charms in the hopes that the program will grow big enough to facilitate the purchase of a future site of Grace Farms.
We make these charms out of brass in our family workshop. They have been incredibly well received and are given out as gifts by people all over the country. We believe they are amazing tools to keep people connected.
Handmade gifts can be a great way to show your love and appreciation for someone and make them feel special.
1. Personal touch: Handmade gifts make people feel more special than mass-produced presents.
2. Unique and one-of-a-kind: our handmade charms are each one-of-a-kind.
3. Creativity and self-expression: Giving a handmade gift shows you took the time to find something special just for them.
Research suggests that people with strong social connections tend to live longer, happier, and healthier lives. Here are a few ways in which strong social connections can benefit a person’s health:
1. Improved mental health: Strong social connections can provide emotional support and a sense of belonging, which can help to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.
2. Enhanced physical health: Studies have shown that people with strong social connections have a lower risk of heart disease, stroke, and a stronger immune system.
3. Increased longevity: Staying connected with loved ones has also been linked to increased longevity.
4. Greater happiness: Being connected with the people you love can also bring joy and happiness to your life, which can have a positive impact on your overall well-being.
Strong social connections can benefit a person’s health and well-being.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
A Well Run Life believes that we live in a time of several major health crises happening at the same time.
We believe people do not have adequate access to healthy food at affordable prices.
We believe that people are lonely and disconnected. People are seeking ways to connect to each other deeply.
We hosted our Pop-Up dinners on Grace Farms to help people across these issues. We brought the best agriculture to creative chefs in the most interesting physical setting we could create.
Our contention is this: if you give people a chance to buy the healthiest food at prices they can afford in a community in which they feel deeply connected- they will thrive and be resistant to so many of the lifestyle diseases that currently dominate the lives of Americans.
We now sponsor a Jiu-Jitsu Podcast called The Jiu-Jitsu Mindset and have a line of coffee called Submission Coffee. We connected with the Jiu-Jitsu community because of many of the shared values we found around nutrition, exercise, and community.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When Covid shut down our Grace Farms project, we had to decide: Should we end our health and wellness efforts or keep serving the community in other ways?
We decided to limit the business scope to our handmade charm programs until we could raise enough money to relocate Grace Farms to our own land.
People write weekly about how our charms strengthen their relationships with loved ones. We have had the honor of creating charms for graduations, births, deaths, and even a marriage proposal!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Our businesses have always bootstrapped their way into existence. Although this approach limited our ability to scale, the intimate relationship we have with our community is very strong. As we grow, the people who believe in our mission will follow us – as they always have.
