We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Peter Culver. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Peter below.
Peter, appreciate you joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
100% happy as a business owner which provides the greatest flexibility to create one’s Ideal Life both financially and personally. We’ve built a business around showing other entrepreneurs how to do that. Would never want to have a “regular” job.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Built by Entrepreneurs. Built for Entrepreneurs.
We know firsthand that entrepreneurs have different needs than other affluent families. We are designed to serve you with exactly what you want and need. Our process is designed to maximize your return on time, your most precious resource.
When entrepreneurs articulate their goals for wealth creation, it spawns a virtuous cycle that leads to financial freedom, personal success and a higher purpose. Together, these building blocks lead to a life that is rich beyond money.
Our team is comprised of well educated, credentialed and experienced entrepreneurs and advisors with one goal in mind – helping you live your best life. We look to balance complexity and simplicity to build a comprehensive financial plan that matches your tolerance for risk and reward.
Conversations about M&A are often focused on multibillion dollar transactions – but M&A can be an important part of a small or medium business owner’s journey. We’d love to hear about your experience with selling businesses.
Let me share my personal experience with you. Back in 1990, I sold a private trust company that I had previously founded to a local bank. This was my first time selling a business, and frankly, I was somewhat unprepared. I relied heavily on the advice of my lawyer and accountant, who were excellent in their fields, but they couldn’t guide me through the personal and broader business implications of the sale.
From this experience, and years of working with clients at Freedom Family Office, I’ve learned a couple of key lessons that are crucial for entrepreneurs. First, don’t go at it alone. In my case, while I had legal and accounting help, I lacked an advisor who could coach me on the more nuanced aspects of the sale. Second, preparation is vital. I was caught off guard when approached by the bank, which is not an ideal situation. You want to be ready and on equal footing with any potential buyer.
At Freedom Family Office, we’ve taken these lessons to heart. We developed a service called “Exit with Freedom,” specifically tailored to help entrepreneurs like you. We go beyond traditional advice, focusing on what you truly want to achieve, both financially and personally. If you’re thinking about selling your business, I invite you to visit ExitWithFreedom.com. We’re here to ensure you’re not just ready for the sale but also for what comes after.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building a reputation in a market as vast as wealth management isn’t easy, but at Freedom Family Office, we’ve found our unique way. Let me tell you about two things that I believe truly set us apart.
First, it’s about integration. You might have a CPA, a lawyer, an insurance agent, but if they’re not working together, you’re not getting the most out of them. We take pride in coordinating all these services, ensuring they work in tandem for your benefit, acting as the central hub in your financial life.
Then there’s our philosophy of being “Rich Beyond Money.” This is something I’m particularly passionate about. It’s about asking our clients to envision their ideal future, focusing on life’s qualitative aspects, not just the quantitative ones. You’d be surprised how many people, when they really think about it, prioritize experiences and relationships over sheer financial gain.
This approach has resonated deeply with our clients, especially entrepreneurs. They often start their journey seeking freedom – not just financial success. I’ve had clients describe entrepreneurship as a path to freedom of time and purpose. And that’s exactly what we aim to provide at Freedom Family Office – a pathway to a life that’s rich in every sense of the word.
