Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Peter Coissy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Peter, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.

My life changing risk was stepping away from a county job to find success in me owning a record label. Being in the music industry requires you to be flexible with your time and to have the ability to travel. When I left the county I was leaving a career with a 401k, something to is guaranteed. The music industry doesn’t bring money immediately unless you sign an artist and produce a hit overnight so you can make money from shows. I’ve invested so much money and is still waiting on my investment but I believe in my heart that the risk will pay off very soon.

Peter, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I am the owner of a record label called Kinggkong Records, I was inspired by the one and only Dj Khalid. I’ve always had the love of music but one day I told myself I can do what he do without question so I did it. My goal and legacy is to bring the attention to artist in Miami mainly and Florida back to the forefront of hiphop music. The whole world love coming to south Florida so why shouldn’t we take control of music back like we did when uncle Luke and Trick Daddy had it in the plan of there hands and let’s not forget Trina who made every girl in the world wanted to be the baddest. Mark my words I will be the one to do it once more!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

Coming into the music industry I was very naïve, I thought everyone who seem cool was my friend and wanted to help me succeed. I was wrong and was forced to learn that this world and the industry was the same, everyone was out to eat and take advantage of you if you show them you were lacking certain knowledge. Day in and day out I forced myself to do my own research on what I needed to become successful in the industry. I’ve also caught many people in lies just to get a dollar from my pocket so I do not go through third parties no longer, if you aren’t the source I won’t do any business with you.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

Many of my funding came from saving my money through out the years because I didn’t really believe in the banking system. Also I own my own trucking company and many a lot of money my first year to help me with some capital as well. Relationship also helps with your career, it will be a time that you won’t have to pay anything depending on the relationship you have.
