Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Peter Ajello. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Peter, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Talk to us about building your team? What was it like? What were some of the key challenges and what was your process like?
SATIN FINISH Concrete had employees from day 1 but was not always hands on trained and licensed family members. Being in my shoes starting out as a small self made company it was difficult to lead members I did not know and to trust here in South Florida that there dedication to the art I taught them would not be used for side work or there own projects as they are all paid handsomely to be artists and installers of state of the art floors. If I were to have to start over after 15 years of business, holding a 5 star rating on Google, and expanding into a large flooring company, I would probably have more Non- Compete paperwork signed and a more stricter version of leadership towards the ship I have built!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
In 2008, I weighed almost 500 lbs. and could only work 2.5 hours a day selling tools and polishing machines. I had a diabetic stroke, as my face slanted and I almost died. My friends and co-workers bet me $17,000 I couldn’t lose 150 lbs. in 6 months, with hard work and determination, I went on to lose 157 lbs. and reversed 14 medications and went on a 2-year tour being featured on The Doctors Show, Dr. Oz, and Oprah Winfrey. When I returned from my tour, I wrote a few books and returned to work selling tools, but this time, I could now work 10 hours a day and reinvented myself by opening the largest account in the company’s history with JcPennys and executing over 75 Florida stores doing Polish Concrete. As the journey is still going, I then moved on to opening up my own company for the last 6 years “Satin Finish Concrete ” and also mastered the craft of Epoxy flooring, restoration of Terrazzo and Marble , I am grateful for everything that has happened for me and the friends and family who stuck by me and believed in me. We work all through Miami and South Florida doing everything from residential, Honda and Hyundai dealerships, resteraunts and high end homes for the rich and famous.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building a tremendous following on social media, started on Facebook and came quite natural and enjoyable after being on National TV, and several talk shows. I have always enjoyed the camera as any new business owner can as well. Start by writing a small description and paragraph of the job executed followed by a video to watch that can be filmed in HD or 4k on your phone. You will grow and get bigger and better as you go!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think building a reputation in business is extremely important, I am grateful for my family who install the floors and share on Instagram and Facebook building our brand across Florida. I think the more involved the employees are in the business and marketing the more success it will bring to your reputation and market.
