We recently connected with Pete Holzer and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Pete thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
Food products have become so diverse and every changing. Take a look at the grocery shelves. For example the Oreo Cookie was developed over 100 years ago and their basic cookie flavor was the only one they had for 70 years. They now have over 85 flavors worldwide. You can see that in so many food and beverage products. The Bloody Mary industry is no different. It use to be just mild or spicy, Now there are a variety of flavors on the market. Sideshow Bloody Mary Mix aims to be creative with this trend. That is why we use flavor combinations you can’t find anywhere else. Flavors like ranch dill pickle, habanero bacon, sweet horseradish and jalapeno garlic.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Sideshow Bloody Mary Mix is a family owned and operated Bloody Mary mix and olive company based out of Minnesota. We started out of our kitchen in 2015. We now commercially manufacture our mixes and are in Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota and Wisconsin. With over 180 locations we love to continue doing demos and tastings at our locations. We enjoy participating in community events, farmers markets, camping shows and festivals. We also do educational podcast videos on trends including different alcohols you can use to create a different drink. IE. Tequila is a Bloody Maria, Gin is a Red Snapper, etc.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
We started out of our kitchen over seven years ago and went to different retail locations / liquor stores with a mason jar of mix and asked ‘Do you like this’? ‘Would you sell it’? ‘How much would you sell it for’? This was the birth of our company and we continued to search for a co-packer to commercially manufacture the mix. It was quite challenging as we have a unique bottle size. We currently have a fantastic co-packer who is more like a partner to us.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
We strive to use quality ingredients and it has proven to be a good business model for Sideshow. We are not the cheapest. But those that appreciate a good Bloody Mary enjoy our five mixes. We are continually striving to come up with new flavors and product lines such as our stuffed olives. Jalapeno Garlic, Onion, Bleu Cheese and Dill Pickle.
