We recently connected with Persiaa Tenai and have shared our conversation below.
Persiaa , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
My passion has always been Acting , Singing and creating music . My mom would tell you that as a newborn I was humming and dancing to Barney every time he came on. I can remember my very first vacation to Disney World and I was just amazed to see my favorite characters in person and to hear my favorite songs on the park speakers. I was six years old, and heard One of my favorite songs come on and immediately put on a show for all of the other guest. I can remember feeling free, happy and in my element. Growing up I would Study movies and shows that I would watch from ;That’s So Raven , The Cheetah Girls and so many more . During breakfast, lunch , dinner I would be acting out these characters I watched and was good at it ! Keeping my family entertained. In High school I immediately joined the Theater Club and the Thespian Society. Every day , every week from ninth grade until graduation , I was learning screen writing and how to work the stage from acting , singing to dancing. I was in over 100 plays between that time frame . My favorites were musicals . When it came to graduation I was honored with two scholarships, one for theater and the other for the International Honored Thespian . Although I had two scholarships to move forward in my acting career. I decided to switch things up a little and went to Albany State University to study mass communication broadcasting. Freshman year I Was granted two honor awards for music public speaking and history and Music; as well as a part of the city’s top radio station. I loved working the sound boards at the radio station as well as having chance to learn how to radio host as well as experience it. I enjoyed networking around the campus and meeting all of the creatives that were right there around me . Moving a little forward I came back to Atlanta and began using the hosting techniques I learned in Albany and the music I learned and began promoting and throwing showcase events and talent shows working with many DJs and local artist.
In 2013 I started working as a assistant and studio manager for former rapper Boomman . It was then I realized I wanted to learn more about the business side of the creative industry. I began playing around and teaching myself basic studio recording skills on GarageBand as well as taking my first step into a recording studio as an artist. I began building a catalog and learning how to get more comfortable with my voice and figuring out a sound for myself. When I was in high school my parents got me my first computer and I Would make mix CDs of all my favorite records and new records that I was just here and burned them. I would study Artist like Ashanti, Aaliyah, Whitney Houston, The Cheetah Girls and so many more . Therefore when I began singing and writing music of my own I regurgitated what I have studied. I later learned that It was a technique that a lot of professional songwriters use to write for popular artists. Songwriters would study the artist learn the sound figure the attitude in the character of the artist and then get into their shoes and write a song for them.

Persiaa , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In 2019 I decided I wanted to learn how to professionally and fully record A song and make it sound good. The summer of 2019 my father gifted me with all of the equipment I needed to set up a home studio . On August 31, 2019 I called my father and advised him I had enrolled into SAE Institute to learn studio production and entertainment business. The next day my father had been killed and the first thought in my head was that I need to make sure I be the best , for him. I then began to move around Atlanta more , visit different studios, different networking sessions, different events, and all around different creators, I sat in rooms with some of the biggest A&Rs , producers and songwriters in the industry. In November 2020 I realized that there were certain things within the entertainment industry that did not sit right with me. I believed that the industry and myself both had the same passion but different missions and goals . It had dawned on me that the creative process and the monetization that comes from being creative was supposed to be more than just work and numbers. I also realized that the entertainment industry was a hard place for a woman to grow or be respected. So I decided to take matters into my own hands using what I learned in school and in the field and decided to start my own lane. I began building and branding PlayWriters Music Group ; A Production and Publishing Company for determined creative and diamonds in the rough. Shining light on female creators and assisting with all production needs of All parts of the entertainment industry from Music To movie production . Signing on professional songwriters and producers to assist with making magical records . As well as having entertainment business management knowledge to assist with branding and marketing for all creators. Now in 2022 I have released my singles “DANGEROUS” and “Whoaa” on all platforms. Since learning how to record I have built a catalog bigger than the Georgia dome. I have assisted an uncountable amount of creatives locally and remotely with creating magic by assisting with Songwriting, Production, and even help with simply managing and organizing projects. Some may say my creative brain causes me to be all over the place and never have one task. As a Gemini that is just something we are good at, having many skills and talents wearing many hats, And being great at it. That being said I love what I do I am here for the world . I am at the disposal for anyone that may need my assistance love and energy.

: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
One of the main things driving my creative journey is being told that being a creator is it a real job or can’t put food on the table we’ve all heard the judgmental statements. Also being told that you aren’t good enough or one of the best or just not good for TV. Of course because of social media that second mentality has changed a little and more doors have opened. As far as Being an entertainer for time and surviving real life it is possible if you do it the right way. My mission statement for my company as well as something I always remember for myself as an artist and Actress, is that entertainment is subjective something that may not entertain one person but may make a different group of people fall in love and go crazy about you . So just keep doing what you’re doing and make sure you’re doing it right. And when I say by the right way I mean with love and determination.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me the most rewarding aspect of being a artist and creative is being admired and paid for literally using your brain and being yourself.
