We recently connected with Perianne Louissaint and have shared our conversation below.
Perianne, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later?
If I could go back in time, I wish I would of started my business earlier! I started my business back when the world was in complete chaos, in the middle of a pandemic! I know what you’re saying, who does that right? It was the craziest, bravest, smartest thing I have ever done. During that time in life, I was still working at one of the most frustrating 9 -5s, with one of the world’s most horrible bosses; literally wanted to quit every day. On top of that, I was scared to be laid off from work, especially with so much that was happening with the pandemic. In addition, I felt like I was in the middle of an early life crisis, trying to figure out what was meant for me to do, and what was my destiny.
You know the saying, “The older you get, the wiser you are” ? Now, had I started sooner, the sooner I would’ve made mistakes and gotten better like trial and error. Starting earlier, would of pushed me further along than where I am today I would have more experience and would be more established.
If I had known designing was my destiny, my experiences would’ve changed. For example, I would of graduated college with a degree in interior design, and minored in architecture. I still am grateful for the degree in criminal justice when it comes to contracts though! I would love to experience doing a summer internship with one of the best design firms in the city. See how this circles back to the older the wiser.
I think in life everyone wishes they would have done certain things earlier rather than later. My focus now is to not harp on the past because I can’t change it but, I can focus on the present.
Perianne, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I love telling the story about getting into the industry. I remember crying and praying for God or the Universe to please light the path for me on what I am supposed to do on this earth. All along it was right in front of me as I did my daily walks through the aisles of Target Home section and Home Goods. People would come up to me randomly showing me their living room floor and asking me my thoughts on what rug I think would look best in their home. Then I started thinking back to the time I was in 6th grade, while everyone was taking home ed class, I was in a woodshop creating a blueprint of my mansion. One morning, I sat down with my coffee in hand and I know it sounds cliche, but I had an epiphany. I took a leap of faith and started taking classes at the interior design institute and completely fell in love.
If I had to sum up our design style it would be warm minimalism with an edge. You would see warm colors blended with neutrals. The texture on texture and raw organic materials throughout the space. The edge comes from a pop of high contrast. We are a company that is never afraid to play with the color black. Our services are for those who want their homes full of good energy. At NamaStay Home Decor, our goal is to design the home you have been manifesting; your home should be an everlasting oasis where you can relax and focus on creating the best version of yourself for the world to see.
I think what sets me apart from others is that I am a true believer that your space reflects your focus and your focus reflects your reality. When designing spaces we see the big shiny chandeliers and the beautiful marble floors but I feel like often we forget that your space isn’t supposed to feel like a museum, it’s supposed to be your sanctuary that you come home to at the end of a long day. Your home is supposed to be your safe haven. I think the problem I solve for my clients is taking their vision for a space that seems impossible and turning it into a functional reality of their manifestations. In addition, to creating a space of their dreams, I tell my clients, out with the old and in with the new in all aspects of their lives. Let this space reflect the next level you.
I think I am most proud of designing a space where my clients can be a better version of themselves. At the end of a lot of my projects, my clients are hitting new goals and setting new aspirations. If you can manifest your dream home then why can’t you apply that to anything else? My mom always told me the possibilities are endless.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I love to read on my spare time! These books changed my business and personal life: “You are a badass” by Jen Sincero, “She Means Business” by Carrie Green, “Good Vibes, Good Life: How Self-Love Is the Key to Unlocking Your Greatness” by Vex King and “Get Good With Money” by Tiffany Aliche
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I lesson I had to unlearn is that when creating a business no matter how hard you try, you will need a hand somewhere. I am a very Type A personality. I like to be in control to make sure things are being executed properly. Trying to grow a business, I realized quickly I only have two hands and one mind; seeking help in other areas, especially ones other people have mastered is okay. Using this concept has also saved me time! For example, outsourcing for renderings. Why try to do everything yourself, when nowadays we have apps like Task Rabbit and you can find someone to help you in a snap of a finger
