We recently connected with Penny & Dime and have shared our conversation below.
Penny & Dime, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
The biggest risk we’ve taken was probably forming the band. We actually met through Craigslist—back when we were both a little younger and a lot more trusting of strangers. Kylie posted an ad, and after wading through a few sketchy responses, got a message from Krystle. It wasn’t long before we clicked, became close friends, and started this journey together. What was once just a fun jam session turned into so much more.
Navigating a music partnership can be tricky, but we push each other to be better, and having that support when performing is priceless. We always have each other’s backs, especially on stage.

Penny & Dime, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are Penny & Dime, a folk duo based in Dallas, TX. While “folk” best describes how we found our sound, we draw inspiration from everywhere and many other genres. We wrote and produced our debut album in 2020, and now we’re well into our second record—still working on the title and release date, but we’re getting close!
Harmonies are at the heart of what we do—they’re woven into nearly everything we create, and we think that’s something special that sets us apart. With two voices, there’s so much more to explore, and that’s what we’ve found grabs listeners’ attention first.
Our music connects people to their past, with nostalgic nods to the music and sounds we grew up on, but also reflects on the last few years—the personal and global struggles we’ve all faced. It’s that mix of familiarity and reflection that we think resonates with people on a deeper level.
We’re really excited about what we’re making in the studio alongside Neon Cowboy Studio and can’t wait to share it with people!

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Community support is the backbone of how we’ve connected with both other artists and listeners, fueling our ability to make more music and gain new opportunities. The best way people can contribute is by getting involved in the local music scene—attend more small shows and support the artists creating music in your own backyard. That’s where the magic happens.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
We don’t believe in the idea of “non-creatives”—everyone has their own creative outlet. Even a spreadsheet has an art to it! But one thing we’ve learned over time is that you can’t force creativity. It’s helpful to schedule time to write, draw, or whatever your craft may be, but sometimes it just won’t flow the way you want. Then there are days when inspiration strikes effortlessly. The key is giving yourself grace and trusting that the solution will come to you when it’s ready, without pushing too hard. That mindset has become our best strategy when it comes to writing music.
